Crap. The printheads have been uncovered for hours now.

I got the cartridges. So as not to waste them, I only installed the black ink to see what would happen. Nothing. Still shows "U043 The following ink tank cannot be recognized" and all of them are shown even the black that is installed. Also, the ink tank is not lighting up. I think something is shorted. Instead of throwing more money after bad, should I just buy a printer that uses these same cartridges?

I found a refurb MX700 on Newegg for $65 INCLUDING INK! Pretty good deal!

1. Don't swap any electronic parts (printhead, etc.) from the sick printer to the "new" printer.....very dangerous to the health of the new printer.

2. You could have Canon "take a look at" the sick printer if it is still under warranty.

3. Sell the sick printer on eBay for parts/repair.

Close all light sources in your room (make it completely dark) and retry. Does it give the same error?
