Hi there, I own a Canon Pixma ip8750 printer which I use for art prints. Today, it began smudging black ink onto the bottom corners of each print.
  • The print size is 5" x 7"
  • I am using genuine OEM ink cartridges, both an older set and a brand-new set just to test and the problem exists on both
  • The printer is a year and a half old
  • The smudges only appear at the very bottom, NOT the top corners or anywhere else in the print.
I have tried:
  • Extensive cleaning of the printhead, rollers and more or less anything I could get to in there with isopropyl alcohol
  • All the automatic maintenance features- roller cleaning, bottom plate cleaning, nozzle cleaning and deep nozzle cleaning
  • New cartridges
I'm certain there's a buildup of ink somewhere causing this, but I can't seem to wittle it down to the right place. Does anybody have any ideas? Pictures of the smudges attached.

There are several things to check or do when smudging like this happens.

See pages 408-412 or your manual (Windows)

There is a similar section in the Manual for Macs pps 299-303

The general idea is to make sure the paper you are using is within specs for your printer, that it is flat and not curved or wavy, is loaqded properly in the paper tray, and that your printer settings are correct for the paper type. Will manually decreasing the color intensity setting resolve the blotches? Will adjusting for Paper Abrasion by increasing the distance between the print head and the paper resolve the issue?

Further explanation is on the pages above in your manual.
