If the tray is the proper "G" tray and not the "D" tray from the MP530 maybe the small shiny reflectors on the tray need cleaning. You can read more about the reflectors in this thread: http://www.printerknowledge.com/thr...20-printing-to-cd-troubleshi.7571/#post-58120

Maybe the CD printing program to use with your printer is not the CD label program but the Easy PhotoPrint EX? If you have not already installed this program you could install it and try CD printing from this program. With my old CD print capable printers, choosing CD print from Easy PhotoPrint EX just opens the old CD Label print.

Hi All

Ya I already checked that I do have the right tray, and I looked at it and it looks like it should work. I compared it to my tray for my MP530 printer and those reflective places look the same to me. I was thinking it was something mechanical wrong, but now it's a toss up with me, either mechanical or computer/program problem. I bought the tray off Ebay.

When I bring up the CD print window looking at it everything looks ok to me, it looks the same as with my MP530 did. And it has worked for years, and printed on I would hate to think how many CD/DVD's. The group of woodworking buddies I have is a bunch and that means a lot of disks being printed.

Now one thing I just noticed this morning when trying it again when I went into the service tool, where you change the regions I noticed that UK was not there it had about 10 other regions there,, USA, AUS, etc.

Ya I have tried that too. Plus I have started the tray in diff spots when I slide it in, with the arrows lined up with them a little after and a little before. Nothing seems to make a diff. It gives me the same little box saying to put in a printable disc. I have tried diff brands of discs too. I usually buy only name brand disks, Sony, Memorex, etc. The little device that reads the disk, is it possible there is something wrong there. ? And the tray is a G, and I have gone back to Ebay and looked at several G trays and they sure look the same as what I have. So I don't think the tray is the problem. I don't think so but with these computers and printers anything is possible. :)

No, there is no UK region in the Service Tool, you have to select EUR.

I think Canon changed something in the latest drivers regarding the printdisc function. I remember the last time I printed a disc it wouldn't take it, so I had to push it further in, disregarding the instructions. It recognized the disc and printed fine on it. I thought it was a glitch...

Here's what changed in Easy-PhotoPrint EX:

- The supported models have been added.
- Windows 8.1 has been added as a supported OS.
- The problem that the print results on the surface of printable disc shift with [Disc Label / Case Cover] function has been rectified.

Hi All

I was looking at that tray a little closer and the reflective spot that is under the disk it has right in the center of it a blurry spot, like some one used a piece of sandpaper on it, or some sort of abrasive on it, and the spot is about as big as half a dime size. If I was to say if there was a problem with it not being able to read the disk I would think it would be the one under the disk when put on the tray. Any thoughts on this. As much as I have thought about this problem and from some of the things posted here I really think I might be on to something. Also too because everything looks like it should be, nothing out of place, except for this little blur spot on the tray is the only thing making sense, so far.

The printer checks that spot when it takes the tray in. If it can see it, then there is no disc in the tray and spits it out. Did you try pushing the tray more inside the printer? That worked for me.

HI All

If you was a betting person would you put your money on it being a mechanical problem or a program problem. I am not against deleting the whole thing and restarting over again. It will take a little time that is all. I feel I have to aim at one thing, the way it is now I am tossed between it being a program or a mechanical problem.

Did you verify that the region was correctly set to "EUR" before proceeding? Both a service test print and an EEPROM info print, both from service mode will tell the region the printer is set to. Here I have combined the tops of the two print and marked the region info:

And which Windows version are you using?

Hi Gunny

Your problems are all software related and not mechanical at all.

Firstly when you use the CD application and you’re ready to print, just go through the normal steps as if you’re printing on paper and wait till you get this first message.

Now if your CD tray is not inserted properly you’ll get this second message, just follow the on screen instructions and the tray should be accepted.

Here is a photo of the iP4700 CD tray for you to check to see if it’s the same.
Also can you indicate which one of the reflector are slightly damaged on your tray, Red, Green or Yellow.
