Hello everyone!

I recently bought two used Pro-1 and this is about Pro-1 #1. I am very happy with the print quality and also with additional features like the color calibration tool (using e.g. X-Rite i1Pro).

I only noticed during the color calibration that the PM part doesn't work and found that, in the nozzle check, the lower half of the PM color block is missing and everything else looks 100% perfect. There are no other errors besides this.

I used my Pro-1 #2 to check my ability to remove the print head and succeeded. It was a matter of finding the little button in the top left (thanks to the "Canon Pixma PRO-1 (partly) demystified" by @swisscow, thank you very much! Also, there is https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART167770). I didn't remove it in Pro-1 #1 yet.

I have compiled a list of the other mentions in this forum regarding the "half of a nozzle check block is missing":

Not half of the block, but similar and cleaning helped: https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART167770

The consensus from this list seems to be that this is an "irreparable electrical failure". It also seems to be relatively widespread and apply to multiple types of printers (I noticed Pro-1, ip4500, i9900, Pro9000, Pro9500). Is there more that I can do? This is such a nice printer and I am absolutely willing to set up my oscilloscope and my soldering iron!

Yes its dead, and there’re nothing you can do about it, if you can find another new head somewhere out there then go for it, but be warned don’t be tempted to buy from EBay, they only sell refurbished heads that are broke and will never work.. Sorry !

Dear The Hat,

No need to be sorry! I am optimistic that I can get my money's worth if I put some effort into it. Thank you for the Ebay warning! In any case, I wouldn't order second-hand products from outside of the EU and/or without warranty.

The printer works for now, and since PM seems to be a lighter version of M, I hope to be able to remove the issue by "calibrating it out". I have only printed a few photos, but I didn't see anything like stripes.

Thank you for your continued effort!

A service manual might be useful. It looks like the Pro 1 service manual can be bought here at £9.99. I don't know if the website is OK.

The Service Manual is a good point, for some reason, I automatically look them up for printers over 200 lb/100 kg...
Thank you PeterBJ!

I acquired a used IPF8400 today and getting a new print head is not an issue at all... the Pro-1 is strange in that regard.
