I've just junked a pair of old Canons - IP 4200 and IP 3000 - there is a good deal of bulk ink left from them!!

Can anyone say whether this ink will work OK in my new MP 550 (have kept it in reserve for 12 months, in anticipation!)???

I have always been a refiller of Cartridges and have generally enjoyed good results. Brian

If you have being happy using this ink in your last two printers, then it will perform the same in your new printer.
Happy Printing..:)

Epson, Canon, HP... A "few"
Just to interject (here we go again)... I finally found the time and wherewithal to check that a simple chip swap to a CLI-521 cartridge would:

a) result in a cartridge the printer recognised
b) allow the chip to still be reset using a chip resetter (the Peach 525/526 battery version in this case)

In all cases the result was positive...

Recently I put in use my Pixma IP4850.
As I do not have a resetter, to check the level of ink I cut and peeled the label on the top of cartridge above the ink chamber (taking care not to unseal the air maze).
With a small pen flashlight placed in contact with half of the uncovered semi-transparent top, the light reflection on ink surface, or the bottom of cartridge, can be seen through other half, thus giving an idea about the remaining ink or if the reservoir is empty. Is not very precise but better than nothing. As a bonus the operation can be done without removing the cartridge from printer.
For actual refill the German method works ok, taking care to keep the cartridge vertical and injecting only 10 ml (pigment) / 6 ml (dyes).

Hi guys,
I've been reading (silently) ur threads/refilling my carts for some time now. Loads of useful info you've collected here!
I've got one question for actual re-fillers of 525/526 carts: how much ink do you in/e/inter-ject into those carts after your printer shows an yellow exclamation mark on an empty cart pictogram? Is your cart actually empty? The reason I ask is that when I refill my carts (topfill method) I can only fill in about 4ml of ink before it goes over the top. Am I doing smth wrong? Aren't they supposed to contain about 9/19ml?
Thanks in advance :)

Printer shows an exclamation mark when the reservoir is empty (with approximation). There is still some ink in sponge. I cannot recall where I read this, manufacturer recommends to change the cartridge now because of possible lower quality prints. Myself I am ignoring it and use the cart until printer shows the red stop sign.
The reservoir of 526 carts hold about 4 ml and the sponge can hold 2 ml. For 525 the values are 6 ml and 4 ml.
So you are not wrong, if you refill when printer shows yellow mark 4 ml is ok for 526 carts.
I suppose the 9/19 ml values are the maximum capacity but not all of this can be used, some of it is trapped in sponge.

gigigogu, thanks mate, you've assured me. BTW I do my topfill method and use plugs from octoinkjet to close the top opening after refill and it works great, no problems up till now. I find it less invasive than German method but it's only MY 0.02$!
I plan on getting window-ed 520/521 carts with chip transplantation but still looking for 525/526 chip donors, they are not that easy to find....
Cheers ;)

One more thing guys, I just want to make sure I've got it right: 525/526 carts are the same as 225/226 ones just the chip is different, similar story between 520/521 and 220/221 ones right? Also 525/526/225/226 are the same as 520/521/220/221 only without window, right?
Hope I was clear enough, at least I understood myself :D

For chips if you do not find empty OEM 525/526 you can try to buy chipped compatibles, use them until empty then move the chip to empty OEM 520/521.

I think that's the first time I've seen such a complete list of all the model numbers for the same cartridge around the world.

Good post, gigigogu. :thumbsup
