Hi all,

Would it be possible to refill the PGI-525 and CLI-526 Canon cartridges? Have seen some transparent cartridges instead of the
black ones, would It be possible to fill these with for example Hobbicolors ink?

First time refilling these, maybe someone could give me some advice :)

Thanks in advance! :D

I'm looking for best way to have Canon MG6150 running smoothly and cheaply for years to come.

From what I read so far it is best to buy new easy refillable cartridges and some ink. After my original cartridges run out I should transfer chip to new cartridges, disable ink monitor and then refill cartridges from time to time (before they run out of ink!)

Who sells affordable but great quality ink? I really don't want to buy some cheap and dodgy ink that could clog up or destroy my printer head.

I'm also looking at CISS systems but as I'm not doing large amount of prints I feel that easy refillable cartridges are better solution, although geek in me would love to buy CISS system just for the hell of it

I would really appreciate comment from more experienced Canon users that refill their own cartridges. So what is the best way to refill these new cartridges? Am I on the right track?

These are the ink cartridges that I'm interested to buy: http://www.ecrater.co.uk/p/10269716/refillable-cartridges-for-canon-pgi-525-k-cli-526-c-m-y

I dont know where you got the idea that refillables are the best way to go, because the consensus on this forum is use OEMs.
There are quite a number of very good ink sellers in the EU, some sell small amounts of ink some large amounts check them out: -

You can refill your Canon cartridges using the top fill method, reseal the hole and disable the ink monitoring.
I would however suggest you weight the cartridge before and after you fill it, that way you can keep a check on how much ink is left in it before you start to print.
The newer Canon printers are now capable of detecting compatible cartridge use.
Another thing to avoid with Canon printers is CISS; they dont always work out the way it says on the box. :(

OK!!! Then I suggest your purchase the following:

Several sets of rubber/latex gloves

A large bottle o laundry detergent, small bag of sand

OR a bar of Lava Soap (sand built in)

These industrial strength materials will be required to clean your hands from today's hi-tech inks.
As for your clothing, buy matching fabric and learn to sew! For indoor furniture or carpets search this site for a previously discussed solution.

Remember, hell hath no fury like an inkdrop or two!!!

happy Canon CISS'ing! irv weiner

I'm new to this forum and generally to refilling cartridges because my last Canon printer had no chipped cartridge so I just bought new replacement one when they ran out.

I goggled and researched online to get info how to get around and not to buy expensive OEM cartridges. Only after further research I found out this great forum.

One thing I see missing is WIKI that would be part of this forum. WIKI pages are great for keeping all relevant info in one central place instead spread around in bunch posts all over the forum.

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll keep my OEM carts and refill them. I weight them when I bought when they were full:
http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=40100#p40100

So I know how much ink need to be refilled.

Thanks once more, now only to get the refilling equipment and inks.

I got few suggestions on this forum to keep away from CISS systems, so I'll probably refill OEM carts. I'll definitely use latex or simpler pvc gloves, refilling will be done in bathroom, far, far away from any furniture and carpets.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

The printers I referred to are the ones after the ip4700 (Newer) ip4850 / ip4820 and any other printer with the new software based chip.
If you dont use Canon cartridges the print driver on your computer can detect this and will bar you
from certain areas on the Canon website and potentially notify them as well, the latter is pure speculation on my part.
Its one of Canons new tricks to prevent the use of compatible cartridges and maximise their profits.
This new chip is not going to be cracked any time soon.. :( :(

TheHat:

That is bizarre! Barring one from places on a website? That would be dumb of Canon, very dumb.

What is this "new software based chip"? Are you saying the "chip" is or works with software you have installed on your harddrive?
