Epson XP-15000: how to mix dye ink with clear ink base to obtain red and grey using CMYK

Is the GI-53 Canon red a true red or is it bether to mix der Epson 106 y+m ink to become red?

It is true red, but mixing Epson 106 and Y+M is a good alternative: I hardly see any difference after profiling

Maybe its the most consistent way to use the GI-53 red. Im not sure about the mix ratio of the 106er red. Is 15y + 85m or 20y + 80m bether for a nearby 478 red?

20Y and 80M is slightly better. Note it is an approximation, because the real red is a bit intenser not obtained by mixing Y and M in the exact right way, but nevertheless after a custom profile I hardly see any difference at all in real world pictures.

When I mixed the red for my i9950, I used 100% yellow and 25% magenta, plus 5% cyan, and I’ve been using that formula for 15 years..

I did a mix ratio of 1y + 2m for a red and 2y + 1m for an orange which makes handling easy , and I created profiles for whatever paper I was using at that time. If you really want to know the optimal mix ratio you would need to run tests with different ratios , to create profiles with such ratios and to compare the gamut volume and expansion in the red area - basically in the +a +b sector of the Lab color space. And such test would allow you to compare your inks to the Canon red ink as well - it's your decision to spend such efforts.

Just wanted to say thanks to pharmacist because the clear ink base formula works great with dye based black inks.

Attempted to use the same CIB mixed with black pigment ink to create gray but adhesion to the photo paper is very poor. While it prints great, doing a rub test, it comes off easily.

I know this post is old, but i have some questions for you,

i have a lot of 105 Black (I suppose it is Pigment Black) that i got buying old set of 105/106 inks for my Epson XP 15000, i have about 1 LT of it

now the questions are:

Can i use this Black on my Epson XP 15000 replacing the Original Photo Black (106) ?

I ask this because the 105 is pigment (don't know if Photo or not) so i could use it on Matte Paper to get better results like does the ET8550 Epson Printer.

The other question is the XP 15000 will use that Black when printing on Matte Paper ? or it get the Black on matte mixing colors ?

The 105 Pigment Black has the same Fade resistance like the 106 ?

I could create different profiles (using the 105 pigment black or 106 photo black) for Matte/Velvet/Baryta/FineArt Paper or Glossy/Luster/Semigloss Paper.

Or is better to use the 106 Photo Black on all kind of paper, including Matte/Velvet/Baryta/FineArt Paper ?

I would not replace the 106 dye black with the 105 pigment black (matte) unless you print 100% just on matte papers, copy papers and alike; there is only one black ink channel on your XP-15000.
I did not test fading of pigment inks.

My question was about the 105 ink, because it is pigment ink, that would give a better black on Matte Papers.

The XP 15000 has the head on each cartridge so on each colors if i'm right (correct me if i'm wrong)

If it's so, i could have a Black Cartridge with Pigment ink to use when i need to print on Matte Paper, and a Black Cartridge with Dye ink to use on Glossy/Semigloss/Luster Papers.

I will switch them each time and also will change the ICC profile loaded each time.

Now the problem could be the alignment ? Or what else ?
