Epson 3880. Canon Pro 9000,
Not meant as offensive. I was treating you like I do The Hat, as a pal. I apologize for offending you.

@stratman
My misread, therefor have deleted two posts, I will just have to get as thick skinned as @The Hat
However, I do ask the rhetorical, " who judges when it crosses over, by whom"? Just a tad more thought on your own oft offered advice applied to your own posts to me, and about me will keep us both away from inadvertently transgressing in the future.
Cheers
Andrew

elements or light room what are the major differences, layers are not needed, just touch-up photos

Regret the delay in answering. If the cost is excluded, I have not looked at a cost comparison at all, and have not used Elements since V5 my selection is biased towards LR as my path was to move from Elements to LR.

Lightroom is a PRO piece of kit at an everyday user price. But it is not altogether a Load - Start - Use piece of kit. Depending on how savvy you are with this sort of stuff I would say Kelby Training and books are a starting point that got me to near enough advanced user in about six months of light use, with gaps between. I do 90% of my processing for framed for sale prints, and 100% of all sharpening and printing in LR. The Catalogue system is as simple as you like or able to effectively manage many thousands of images. Well as much as you can shoot/ store on HDD or external HDD Systems.

@Emulator uses Elements as does @fotofreek and they would be much better placed to profile Elements for you.

Good luck

Photoshop is a drug. Everyone bows deferentially and presumes one absolutely must be able to use all of its (mostly useless) functions. As I've mentioned on other threads, I totally lack the Adobe gene. Nothing, in any of their programs, is even slightly intuitive for me. And that's not even getting into the cost.

For most digital photographers, PS is total overkill. Yes, some images may be improved by the many tools, layer functions, etc. But mostly, not so much. Most routine improvements are to be had with thinks like auto color, auto level, manual versions of the same, sharpening, etc. Simple stuff. Pretty much, best as I understand, Adobe Lightroom does. (Great name!)

To these cheapskate ends, on Windows, one can't go wrong with:

Google Picassa
Irfanview
digiKam - a Linux based but ported to Windows very heavy duty "Lightroom."
XnView

If I'm compelled to dabble in layers - thus far successfully resisted - there's The Gimp.

Why PS, other than everyone kneels before it? Look up: "iconoclast."

You certainly have one huge problem with Photoshop in general and seem to know awful lot about nothing, and seeing as you’ve never used it, you know in fact diddly squat about what it can actually do for digital photography.

This thread is about learning to use Photoshop easily and not about knocking it, so why don’t you engage your brain a little more before outputting your ridiculous gossip about something you obviously have a huge distaste for and leave it at that, please by all means comment but stop Ranting.

O’ by the way it’s an absolutely marvellous Application, once you have a mind for it. :)

I have used it. Or, more accurately, tried to. Overkill for many needs. One of the most accomplished professional photographers I know uses ACDSee. No PS except for rare occasions. And even if you want most of what it can do, there are a lot of less expensive options from Corel, for instance.

You and I are very different. I try to think for myself and not do things just because everyone "knows" you have to do something. Been there younger, older now. Sometimes I burn myself, mostly not.
