iP7250 Service Mode

Help Please I have just purchase an iP7250 as the print head on my iP4300 is giving 5 amber flashes.

I have discovered part of the service mode for the iP7250 which is
Hold down the reset button (lower button) then hold down the top Power Button.
Release reset button after 3 seconds while still holding power button
Press and release the reset button once and the amber reset light comes on ...then release the power button (amber light goes out and the power button will flash white about 5 times)
Now press and hold the reset button and the white power button light will start to flash release after ,
1 Flash.... machine will deep clean
2 Flash....nozzle check print out sheet
4 Flash....head alignment sheet print out
6 Flash....network configuration sheet print out
to abort operation... press reset button, to exit service mode press power button

No matter what else I do this is all I can get out, does anybody know how to print out the other detail sheets.

The procedure described is not service mode operations, but front panel maintenance/test operations. I think these operations are allowed for the user

Service mode operations can be risky, and are not allowed for the user, so proceed at your own risk! Proof that you have been using service mode could void your warranty!

See this thread about service mode operations and note that an USB connection is necessary for service mode operations even if the prnter might have wireless capability. Also note that the service tools only work with windows and one of the newest versions of the service tool is necessary if your OS is 64 bits. For instructions on how to enter service mode it is advisable to study the service manual, but the service manual for the iP 7250 seems nowhere to be found. Instead the instructions from the service manual for the MG5220 might be useful. The instruction for entering the service mode in the service manuals might be a bit difficult to understand, but MP640 rewrote it so it is much clearer:

1. With the power cord connected and the printer power turned off, while pressing the Resume / Cancel button, press and hold the ON button. (DO NOT release the buttons.)

2. When the Power LED lights, while holding the ON button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (DO NOT release the ON button).

3. While holding the ON button, press the Resume / Cancel button 5 times, then release the ON button. Each time the Resume / Cancel button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately.
For most printers the number of times the Resume/cancel button should be pressed in step 3 is 2 times. If 2 times doesn't work then try 5 times. If that doesn't work then try 4 or 6 times.

For instructions on how to perform service mode operations and interpreting the test prints, also see the service manual for the MG5220 from page 43/62 and on. I strongly recommend that you only print the Test print and the EEPROM info. Leave all other service mode operations alone, as errors made in service mode may delete info or in a worst case render your printer inoperable.

Sorry PeterBJ that method does not get me into service mode on the iP7250. However I suspect that I need a service tool to go with my method above to get into service mode. Downloaded ver 3400 and all I get is Error Code 006 when print test sheet or EEPROM print. Also when EEPROM print is pressed it asks me which paper tray or cassette to use which makes me think WRONG service tool as iP7250 has 2 cassette only and no tray feeder , so will have to wait until a service manual becomes available on the web.

I was also very interested in how you went about entering Service Mode with your iP7250 printer.

The iP7250 is of the newer Canon printer range and the standard method of entering Service Mode
should have been the one that PeterBJ gave you, but clearly it wasnt.

I used to use Service tool 3.22 in Win XP and the same 5 button method mentioned to enter Service Mode on my Pro 1,
but after it got a firmware upgrade it now will no longer respond to the 5 push button setup,
so I am stuck just like you are and in need of a newer method also.

If your'e getting error 006 then your printer is not in service mode properly
so it wont respond to commands given in any of the Service tools available.

Your'e going to need to find another push button sequence before you can get your printer into Service mode;
Ive got another 18 months before Ill really need it.

The 5 amber lights on your iP4300 mean you going to need a new print head to get that printer to work again..

The service tool and procedures I described is intended for the PGI-x20/CLI-x21 and PGI-x25/CLI-x26 generations of Canon printers plus the Pro 9000 MKII and possibly the Pro 9500 MKII and other Pro models.

With the BCI-3e/6 and the PGI-5/CLI-8 printers another procedure, that used only push button codes and no service tool program was needed. The procedure was found in the service manuals for the printers, but these service manuals were not always error free: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7171

The iP 7250 is a new generation printer using the PGI-550/CLI-551 cartridges, so I think it The Hat is right in that a new procedure for entering service mode is needed, and a newer version of the service tool might also be needed.

If somebody figures out how to perform service mode on this printer and other new printers, the info would be very much appreciated, but before starting experiments with service mode, remember it is never without risk being a pioneer. It might be best to leave service mode alone until absolutely needed, for instance for an ink absorber reset.

I am still waiting on the Service mode procedure for the Pro Printers !
