I have had my Canon Pixma Pro-1 printer for about 4-5 years. It gets infrequent use. I will print several 8 x10s or 5x7s every few months. Now and then I have gotten the B200 error over its lifetime (with the alarm and power light alternating sequence of 10 flashes each). This included right out of the box! Which somehow cleared itself with unplugging the power. I've noticed in the past I would even get this error if the front printing bay is closed but I power up the printer.

I printed a few 11x17 images about two weeks ago and then printed a 5x7 five days ago. But ink was very low for 5 of the inks. The 5x7 Print didn't come out great with some banding. Then two days ago I put new ink cartridges in. It seemed to take them fine. Then I tried to do a test print for another image. I got the error message on the computer. It said B200. Have printer serviced...I turned it off and back on and now I just get the flashing light sequence and printer won't do anything. I have tried to unplug it 5-6 times over the past couple days but can't get it to do anything other than flash at me.

The last time this happened, my son had pulled down hard on the front printer bay door and I just let it sit for a couple weeks and then it started working again, miraculously.

I have only used OEM inks for this printer.

Would love any assistance folks can offer. Thank you!

Hi @STEFAN A PETRANEK, you seem to be having different problems that are not related to each other, which is it, firstly which LED lights are flashing, Orange/White or both, only the Orange flashing 10 times is the front paper tray which has two down positions and 1 up position (Closed)

The other sequence of LED lights are the Orange then the White flashing 10 times each, now the first problem is easy fixed but the second error (B200) is a bit more serious, that refers to the overheating of the print head..

Come back with more information please and don’t print anything other than nozzle checks in the meantime..

Hi @The Hat, thank you for your response. Sorry if I presented too much history. My current problem is the B200 error. I get orange and white alternating flashing light in a set of 10. Then it pauses for a moment and repeats. It seems strange it did this just after I put in new ink. Not sure what to do. Can you do anything other than replace the head? Thank you!

Some have claimed their B200 error was due to cartridges used and that they resolved it with changing the cartridges or resetting the chips on the cartridges. See my post here and read the whole thread, too.

Thanks for the suggestions @stratman. Does anyone have the detailed instructions for removing the cartridges and print head for the Canon Pro-1. The threads you pointed to are not Pro-1 specific and until you manually take apart the printer, you can't even open the bay doors to remove cartridges and the print head is even more shuttered away in the printer. Plus I hear the print head is pressurized for this ?

thanks for your help!

No they are not. The discussions are for just about any other consumer Canon inkjet printer but yours, so take it with a grain of salt that many or all the suggestions will not be appropriate for you. It goes to show how difficult the B200 error is to resolve short of a new print head or printer. Exasperating!

I do not have instructions concerning he Pro-1. Sorry.

@STEFAN A PETRANEK, Unfortunately there’s not much you can do, other than replace the print head, but you can turn off your printer completely and unplug it from the wall, after you have removed the print head, then reinstall it later after an hour or two.

But here’s the sting, this action may work for a short period of time, it could be days or months, you simply can’t tell, because all it takes is for the head temperature to vary slightly to cause the B200 error to return, and it won’t go away a second time. (Wasted ink)

You’ll have to count the cost yourself in time and money, do I Frigg around with the current print head or do I replace it with a new one, because it flushes approx. 35% of your ink in a system clean once a head has been removed or replaced.

If you decide on a new unit then source out the new head from an Authorised stockist, (Not EBay), or visit the site yourself, because it’s too easy to get caught with a used second-hand unit, when you have done that PM me here and I will give you the removal details..

Hopefully this helps anyone with a B200 error. I have a Pro-10 that started flashing alternating between the power and fault LEDs, 10 times per LED per sequence. Totally unresponsive to anything I did, has all Canon pigment installed and only Canon pigment has ever been installed. Tried unplugging power, restarting numerous times, nothing. I even tried someone's suggestion to unplug power, hold power button 30 seconds, reconnect AC power, still didn't work.

Here's what solved it after deciding to experiment to try and initiate a hard reset command and not feeling that holding the power button down for 30 seconds while unplugged would accomplish doing that.

I unplugged the unit, held the power button down for at least 30 seconds (was probably about a minute), while STILL HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON DOWN plugged the unit back in and kept holding the power button down for at least another 30 seconds (likely was more like a minute), while doing this the power LED was solid white the entire time... then while still holding down the power button also pressed and held the feed button for at least another 30 seconds (holding both down). Upon releasing the two buttons the printer appeared to be off.

I turned the printer back on and, lo and behold, it started up and performed a lengthy self clean cycle and functioned as normal.

Hope this helps someone, may work on the Pro-100, Pro-9000 and Pro-9500 as well.

@Aaron Hoyle thank you for sharing your idea for clearing the dreaded B200 error, and getting your own printer to function properly again, anything that can help others in a similar situation can only be a good thing… ;)
