My MAXIFY 5350 is on refill ink

@The Hat - That's was what I thought some time ago with the Octopus carts when they printed a lot of pages and no leaks and suddenly a day later drips or pools of ink. Last time it occurred was during the storm conditions where we had high pressure and suddenly low pressure then high again.

@mikling - Great info on how the bags work. I also liked your idea of drawing ink out to prime the cart. I'm thinking a syringe with a stepped tip like the one supplied with the Chinese carts (see pic) A little O ring over the thin part would seal against the port and then adjust the tip to the right length to just open the spring loaded port.

The fluctuations should have been absorbed by the floppy bag. If the bag had not been pulled in by the consumption of ink, then yeah, the bag would not work.

I think pulling ink out via the following method is the best you can do, provided everything works well.

You loosely seal the air inlet port. Then you pull out 2 cc of ink and then open the air inlet port and take out say 1/2 cc more. That should pull the bag back in and take out the bulge. The initial seal and then pull is to suck the bag back in. Then the second pull stage is to generate the pressure by making sure air in entering the cart under some force from the exit just like it would be inside the printer.

Now you know why the Pro-10 and Pro-9500 carts are so special. The aspect of no trapped air inside the carts makes it nearly impervious to these situations.

One day I will get back to storing sponge carts. Now you know, start thinking about it.

In these conditions the spring loaded bag in the new model cartridges should maintain a fixed internal pressure.

What I still do not understand in all this is how the air is prevented from entering via the printhead.
In a PRO-9500 and Pro-10 cart the sealing is done by the surface tension of the ink on the exit maze. The air can out but not in.
Maybe there is something alike in the Maxify printhead. Without the bag would not hold a negative pressure.

There is a spring in the new carts.
I checked it by pulling air from the ink fill hole. You can suck the bag flat just as in a PGI-9 (PRO-9500).

As I promised to tell the truth and nothing but the truth about this printer:

This morning the nozzle check of my MB5350 missed most of the cyan.
After one cleaning it was OK as shown by a full page on high quality.

Cyan ink (octopus-office.de) seems to have a slight problem.
It happened also with the refilled OEM's and first model refillables, but most of the time it is gone with a second nozzle check without cleaning.
It is a minor nuisance but for perfection maybe I should try another brand for cyan ...

After 1000p (with a lot of colour graphs and photo's on A4, also double sided) the inside of the printer is still clean.
You can see the new model yellow cart with the bag slightly folded.
I never had leaks with none of the cartridge types used.
