I have done the preprofiling, but I am not so impressed. I have better results with a large target with about 3 sheets (2160 patches) of A4 and easier: otherwise you have to print the first target wait 24 hours scan, generate the secondary target, print again, wait 24 hours again and scan and be ready after 2-3 days. Too complicated and time consuming for me.

i understand your point, i was just curios if we can get a better profile using 2 x A5 charts (with specific selected patches for 2 reads) than 1 x A4 charts (with specific selected patches for 1 read)

i discovered that Chromiq doesn't start on OS Monterey on Mac, i have two old macs where i would like to try it (i'm using x86_64 binary)

I believe you need to this first:

Installation: Open the DMG, drag ChromIQ to Applications, eject, then launch.


ChromIQ is ad-hoc signed (not notarized). On macOS Sonoma+ the right-click → Open trick often fails with "Apple cannot check it for malicious software." If that happens, remove the quarantine flag in Terminal:


xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/ChromIQ.app



Then double-click as normal.

I don't understand if i can use a scanner to generate a profile for a printer (like PrintPrism) with Chromiq

if possible someone can explain how to do it, i could generate profiles faster and could use more patches in a single sheet (against i1pro1 patch size)

Should work in the latest versions. However you would have to create a good profile for your scanner first. Knut added two presets for the scanner as measurement instrument (A4 and letter size). But I can’t tell you how accurate this process will be.

So create a scanner profile first (like Pharmacist did)

Then create a new target for scanner as measurement instrument (here is what Knuts preset looks like):

Then as always print it without colormanagement.

Open the Build scanner or camera profile tool and check the option to profile the printer from this scan. You see some of the options in the window then changing. You load in the scanner profile you have created for your scanner before, the ti2 file from the new big chart you have created, Chart geometry should be auto-filled when the chart was build in a recent ChromIQ version, in the last field you load the tiff file from the uncorrected scan you made of your uncolormanaged print from the chart you have created.

The tiff then should show up in the preview below. You align the mesh over it and can build a printer profile from there.
But as the help text says: a printer profile from a spectro will probably be more accurate.

I already done the xattr, when i click on the Application icon, it opens and closes as soon as appears, i can barely see the icon appear and disappear on the dock.

It seems although the readme stated somethin different ChromIQ does not work under Monterey and macOS 13 is required at the very least…
