After watching your explanation of "overriding" the resetted cart - would this be a correct workflow:
1 get at least one more maintenance cart
2 use it when needed and reset the first (+ renew or clean the "sponge" if needed)
3 use the resetted first one when needed and reset the second one
.. and so on .. ?

Yes!
In actual practice, you would never really have to ever use your new one. The new one would only used to overwrite the chip code of the one you are reusing. Once you overwrite the code of the "Dirty One" with the code from the brand new one, then the printer will forget it ever "Knew" that dirty one and will happily accept it as it was moving in for the first time.
You do have to reset the old chip of course.

If you have two dirty ones you can simply exchange #1 for #2 and back to #1 and so on and on. You do need two chips to make the system work.

I did not discuss another method that does not involve a second cart because it is not so convenient.
You replace the original chips with say a CYAN cart chip. The printer will angrily reject that chip being present on your M Cart.
You then turn off the printer, remove the cart, reinstalled the resetted original M Cart Chip, reinsert the M Cart and power up the printer. The chip will now be accept it.

I prefer the easier two cart method. No chips to swop and make sure they do not become detached in the process. That would NOT be fun!

Joe, what happens when you do do need to use your "new" one later on after it has already been used to make the old/resetted/used cart appear as empty or new?

If it has already read your new cart once as being empty, doesn't the printer now assume that your new cart is now full later when you put it back into the machine after you fill up the older/repacked one and do this sequence again? I'm guessing the printer is storing the info on the new card's chip and should know it has already been read as full of ink with the subsequent older cart and maybe not accept it as a new empty cart?

If this makes any sense at all.

Tia.

NO. It only remembers ONE cart's code and % of fullness condition.
Say you reset cart #! which was full ( 100% filled chip ). It will still be read as filled. You need insert Brand New cart #2 it is accepted. ID code for #1 is erased and replaced with ID Code from the new #2.

You now replace #2 for the original and reset #1. It is now accepted and recognized as 100% Empty. Say for whatever reason you decide you still wan to dirty up the new one #2 and you let it go to say 50% filled. Then for whatever the reason you decide to remove it, and replace it with the previously reset #1 cart.
The code for #2 will be erased and the #1 cart will be accepted and read as fully empty. You then use it to say 50% and replace it with #2. The code for #1 will be erased and the #2 code will be written and the cart will still be at the condition it was before you removed it which was 50%.

You can go for cart #1 to #2 and back and forth forever. The chip remembers its % condition and will be read as such UNTIL you reset it.
