🔧 Seeking Technical Assistance – HP OfficeJet Pro X476dw MFP

Hello everyone,

My name is Mohamed from Morocco. I work in digital printing and backend systems, and I’ve been facing a technical issue with my HP OfficeJet Pro X476dw MFP printer since 2016.

After purchasing the printer, it was replaced under warranty. However, the supplier opened the box and removed the original Setup cartridges before handing me the replacement unit.

🔍 The issue:
This printer requires Setup cartridges (HP 970/971) to complete its initial configuration. Without them, it won’t accept standard cartridges or proceed with any printing tasks. HP support is no longer available for this model.

🎯 What I’m looking for:
I’m searching for **unused original Setup cartridges** for HP 970/971, or any reliable workaround to initialize the printer.

🧑‍🦽 Personal note:
I am a young man with a physical disability, and I rely heavily on technology to support my work and independence. Reviving this printer would help me continue my printing-related projects and reduce costs significantly.

💡 Can anyone help by donating unused Setup cartridges, offering used ones that haven’t been linked to another printer, or suggesting a trusted supplier or technical solution?

📩 Feel free to reply here or message me directly. Your help would be deeply appreciated!

I don't have any cartridges but if I were you I'd go back to the seller and explain that you can't get ti set up without them.

Hello my friend, Thank you for reply.
I tried several times and contacted HP but to no avail.
Until AI directed me to this forum and said you might be able to help with my situation.

Hi Mohamed, I found a procedure for you to try on the HP support forums that solves a similar problem on different HP printers. However the setup cartridges have a unique function, HP claims that they are designed to do a first calibration. Using different cartridges for this task might give undesirable results.
I did get my printer fixed, I managed with some help from
which is for a different HP printer, and some guessing, to get into service mode and change some settings,

The procedure is valid for my HP Photosmart Premium C410 on which the previous owner did a factory reset:

- Press and hold cancel and press OK simultaneously and let both keys go

- Press the home key and then the keys 1 2 3

- Press right arrow until in System Configuration Menu, then OK

- TradeatOOBE displays. Press OK

- No Trade displays. Press right arrow

- Trade displays. Press OK

- Press Cancel until exited from Menu

- Turn printer off and on again.

- It should now not display the warning anymore. My printer is working fine since I did this.

Hope this helps you Bubenbej!
