After 15 years, that HP definitely gave you a good run. For your requirements, I’d focus on the photo quality first and then check which models also have the ADF, auto duplex, touchscreen, and USB/SD support. Do you print photos regularly, or is it mostly documents with occasional photos? That might help narrow down the best options under $300.

The Canon TS9550a is a good photo printer: 5 individual catridges (including photo black for better contrast in photo prints and pigment black for crisp laser sharp text printing). It has ADF (A4 only) and auto duplex and can print borderless photo's up to A3, can read SD cards (special slot) and under $300.
