For those interested: Druckerchannel has tested several aftermarket chipped PGI-5Bk and CLI-8 cartridges and one of the tests was the printing quality of plain text on office paper.

Here the results:

http://www.druckerchannel.de/artike...xtdruckqualitaet_canon_versus_nachbaupatronen

Notice the crisp and very black results with minimum of bleeding with the KMP pigment black. Blacker and sharper than Canon's own pigment ink ! I discoverd this ink about a year ago and I am still very happy with the ink. I use it to refill HP pigment black cartridges too with excellent results.

Only problem is with the falling value of the UK pound against the euro, these inks are getting more expensive.

Another thing, I looked at the KMP site and tried to go through the purchase cycle, but there seemed to be no way of getting it delivered outside Germany or the Benelux countries.

What's your secret Pharmacist, or do you drive over once a year in your white van to collect in person?

Froggy,

No secrets: In germany there is a company which sells 100 ml and 1 litres bottles with this marvellous pigment ink called

www.tintenalarm.de

If you don't understand german, just send a email in english asking for the price + shipping costs to the UK. Paypal accepted and they will send you a paypal invoice and 5-7 working days later you will receive your ink.

However on the graphics test of the same comparison, KMP does not compare well to the original. I am not sure if this is a pigment text / dye background combination or dye text / dye background. Sudhaus is also a good choice with faithful reproduction of the eye photo and good smudge resistance.

I don't like the water resistance test; it seems to me that different amounts of water have been dropped on the samples making impossible to judge which is best. I would prefer if they dropped the sample on the water for a specific amount of time and then count the intensity of the color. A few tests for longevity wouldn't hurt either (although I am not particularly interested in longevity)

But the test is well rounded and probably the best I've seen on the web. I just wish they would include some American inks such as Image Specialists (Precision Colors) or Formulabs.

Panos,

that's right, but I don't use the dye based CLI-8 ink of KMP, but use only the KMP pigment ink in combination with Hobbicolors UW-8. I just keep shopping around choosing the best inks for my printer. So far my favourites: KMP pigment ink, Hobbicolors UW-8 dye ink, Image Specialists K4 pigment ink (for my Epson Pro 3800 refillable cartridges).

Froggy,

1 liter of KMP pigment ink costs 29.99 + shipping costs. I think this a reasonable price for such high quality pigment ink

Pharmacist, I agree, its a reasonable price. I was just pointing out that as the GBP is falling against the euro, the price in sterling is increasing. But it is still a good price.

Although 1litre of Pigment would last me longer than the lifetime of the ink or the printer, I'd have to go for the 100ml shots. Thanks for the info on ordering, will be keeping that on file, if it's not in there from a previos conversation I think we had, come to think of it..
