Rats, I should've made it 50 bucks. Anyway, you can send the 50 cents to my email account via PayPal. Thanks.

Just to confirm I use this universal KMP black pigment ink for my Canon BCI-3eBK, PGI-5, my friend's PGI-520/220 and also in HP black ink cartridges. The results are indeed very good, actually I cannot see why one would use the more expensive PGI-5 version.
That's what I wanted to know. I asked websnail in this forum the difference between the two pigmented black KMP inks he sells, such as for PGI-5 cartridge, but did not get a reply.

Besides the names and proposed purposes, anyone with personal experience know the differences in the inks, such as with performance (depth of blackness, crispness of characters, and abilty to not smear with highlighter use), longevity over time and from moisture, and effect on the printhead over time (ie clogging)?

You didn't? Darn... Sorry about that... must have missed it..

To be honest though, my suspicion is that the more expensive ink is just a closer match, which, frankly would make it a bit of overkill because the Image Specialists ink is already a close match and cheaper.

... and yes, before you ask, I only stock the PGI-520/220/5 specific inks because I knew someone would want to play with it... Most folks go with the Img Spec' or the KMP Universal.

I wasn't even aware of the fact there are two KMP pigment black inks. Whenever Pharmacist talked about it I do not remember he ever mentioned that there are two varieties of the ink. My impression has been there is one and it's for PGI-5 cartridges. Until I think Stratman or somesone else asked about KMP Universal. It the Universal is the one that has been talked about he would not have asked. The word Universal can have an implication that it is cheaper and perhaps not as great as the higher cost one.

If you know Impage Specialists pigment black ink well, they had two versions of it too. One was extremely expensive and the other was relatively cheap. I don't see two of them any more as of today. There is only one today that is as cheap as dye inks. If you are aware of that there were two won't you ask where is the other one and if the cheap one means cheap quality? This is exactly why I asked if KMP Universal is less quaiity. I have always assumed that Pharmacist talked about the expensive one. The price is steep, isn't it? So it is actually the Universal one and it isn't cheap at all.

Is it Euro? At the time you bought it it was probably $40 - $45 USD. Add shipping it would be expensive to me in USA but not that bad I can agree. I remember you posted the link before and I looked at it once. It's not in English. I did not see (could not see) the word Universal there. Is it there now?

Here is a direct translation of the description of ink on their web site:- ;)

1 litre high-pigmented text-black original KMP refilling ink for Canon printer.

Thanks for the info. It adds another piece to the puzzle.

I want to try some of this fabled KMP-Universal black pigment ink at some point, along with the Squeezy Fill bottle system. :D I have used OEM Canon, Hobbicolors and soon Image Specialists (on my next refill)

Wasn't it Hobbicolors that had 2 kinds of PGI-5 ink --- one pigment ink proper and one a mix of pigment and dye black? You had to order the "PMT" for the full-on pigment ink, or some such thing. That was part of why I wanted to know the difference between KMP's Universal and their so-called PGI-5 direct replacement ink.

Thanks for the translation. It does not say KMP Universal? Which one is it? I am confused now.
