Something else that works great with my Eye-One Pro (sold as EF-1000) are the now-free Bable utilities. I use the PatchTool V7 a lot!

Well, the CT&A confuses the heck out of me as well. PatchTool has various features I don't use, but it's a great reader for manually collecting data. You need one of the X-Rite drivers installed on the machine and I don't think it's terribly fussy about which version. Then just go to the Tools menu and select the Patch Reader. It will prompt you to do a cal first, then read and graph after that.
