The other day I needed an A4 sign for an advertisement, so when I was finished making it up, I displayed it in the outdoors, I used, Red and Black for all of the text and I taught that was that..

Well to my amazement the black colour ran off the paper, while the other colour held up to the rain, this was printed on a Canon Maxify using Canon bottled inks..

The offending Canon bottled ink (170 ml) was Canon GI-56<BK>.. and I have now removed this ink out of the black Cart and replaced with Chinese Compatible HP BK pigment ink..

Now the prints are colour fast again.. So much for using genuine Canon inks.. !
I have never questioned the quality of Canon inks before, but now I know different.. :th

probably counterfeited: where did you bought it ?

Safety Hologram was legit on the box ?

I would certainly contact Canon for an exchange or refund: this is just unacceptable.

From a Danish web shop I found this about the GI-56 BK ink:

The Canon GI 56 BK ink refill is a premium solution for your printing needs, offering both high efficiency and exceptional quality. With a generous duty cycle of up to 6000 pages, it minimizes the need for frequent replacements, making it an economical choice for both home and office use. The use of pigmented ink not only ensures sharp, vivid prints but also provides smudge resistance, enhancing the durability of your documents and photos. Designed exclusively for Canon ink-jet printers, this original consumable ensures seamless compatibility and reliability, ensuring your printer operates smoothly. Whether you're printing important documents or treasured photographs, the Canon GI 56 BK ink refill delivers consistent, high-quality results.

But they also write: "Ovenstående informationer/specifikationer kan løbende ændres." which can be translated to : "The informations/specifications above might be changed anytime."

No thanks.. The Chinese Compatible HP inks do what it says on the bottle and is a lot cheaper than the genuine canon inks, how times have changed when you can’t even rely on the quality of OEM inks any more..

Ops, and it did..
I wouldn’t mind because I’ve been using the OEM inks for quite some time and wasn’t aware it wasn’t smudge resistant..

OK, I am using Inktec HP compatible pigment ink in my Epson WF-7840 printer and it does a very good job indeed. But it is sad you can not even trust the manufacturer's own branded ink.
