I have not heard of any problems regarding running a new Pro 100 without the set-up cartridges, there are so many selling on EBay without carts and print head that we would have heard by now if that was the case.
But you still don’t need to worry because if you reset the chip on the set-up carts they’ll do the same job as new carts again and again, so you’re in a win win situation, so long as you don’t run them dry (Red X).
