Hi there. I'm Wayne, from a tiny town in rural Victoria, Aust. We moved here, about 100km's West of Melbourne in the last qtr of '25, to sort of semi retire/pay out the mortgage.

I've been very interested in printing since I was first introduced to doing it 'properly' By Dr Les Wakeling, at one of his lectures.

I've had a Canon printer in the past (my first 'serious' printer) but more recently, since the Canon died, I have only used Epson. I had a P600, which I think I killed with 3rd party inks, Then bought a P700 to replace it. At that time I was dubious about the print quality of the ever so more economical ET8550, but I've since become a convert, and bought one so I can play/learn a lot more without wincing at the thought of the cost of ink I was using/wasting.

I'm a big fan of Qimge Ultimate, and have recently been playing with Mike Cheney's other gift to humanity, Print Prism.

I'm looking forward to share what little I know, and learn from print masters

Cheers!

Hi Wayne - Richard here - welcome. I hail from about 100km NW of Melbourne so thought I'd say g'day - like you I'm an impressed PrintPrism user - very impressed by it. I trust you're using the new slice he released yesterday? I had my doubts at first but it works far better than I'd ever imagined. Canon printers in my world using TurboPrint print drivers. Anyway - cheers & welcome!

Cooeee Richard, thanks for replying.

I'm trying to figure out what town is 100 k's' NW of Melbourne. somewhere around Bendigo?

Yes, I D/L the newest version of print prism yesterday, but yet to install it. I asked Mike a question 'do I need to reprint all the targets I've made with previous versions', still waiting for an answer.

I wont have a chance to use the new version for a week or more, as we are on a plane to the 'land of the long white cloud' in the morning. Hopefully I will have some images that deserve printing on our return.

100km NW of Melbourne is a small area called Drummond - roughly midway between Daylesford and Malmsbury and about 12km west of Kyneton. Have 5 acres off grid here. Where are you?

The new Printprism does use an updated target but as Mike explains it, the only difference is a wider black border and no need now to trim before scanning as a result. He suggests that the newer target scans better, but that the differences relative to target 41 "are negligible".

Enjoy Aotearoa - trust you return with some good print fodder.

I just realised I said West of Melb in my intro. I meant East. West Gippsland.

I know roughly where you are. A good mate of mine lives in Newstead, and we visited Daylesford a couple of years ago. My Missus booked it without knowing it was the pride weekend.... that was fun.

My fathers folks come from the surrounding districts. My GF was born in Bendigo, and his cousins (?) had apple orchards in the Harcourt/Elphinstone area. Pollards Rd is named after them.

We had 5 acres two properties ago. She loves horses, but she kept falling off them, so the farmlet and the horses had to go. Bought a property 1200mts away from there and set about transforming an acre of garden. That eventually got too much for us as we are getting older, so we set about finding somewhere suitable to buy/pay out the mortgage and semi retire.

We moved to Neerim South last October. NS is about 17kms north of Warragal/Drouin. Population of the district is only about 1500 souls.

Its a surprisingly well appointed little fly spec of a town. We have a hospital (!), medical centre, aged care, pharmacy, pub, 1 star restaurant, hardware store, farm supplies, butcher, baker (no candlestick maker, sadly) brewery, post office, hair dresser, vet, small supermarket, fuel station, art gallery, performance theatre/ small cinema, lots of street art, primary and secondary schools. Football, netball, cricket and bowls clubs. Truly astounding for such a small town.

We are packed and ready to head off to the airport hotel as we have an early flight in the morning and I don't fancy setting off at 3am to get all the way across Melb to Tullamarine.

Thanks for the info re Print Prism target. That saves me hep of work, as I have literally dozens of papers I play with, and two printers, so two profiles for each paper..... I'm a sucker for punishment...

in case it is of interest to you, I have found some really good cheap paper here - https://continuousinksupplysystem.com.au/en/133-paper-glossy-matte-coated-premium-photo-stin-wove. The semi gloss nd gloss papers are really good, if a little light weight. And now we can profile them!

Chat more when we get back.
