cube(20);

will produce a cube of side 20mm. You can then 'subtract' a cylinder of diameter 5mm to make a 5mm hole down the middle using the difference() function:

difference(){
cube(20, center=true); // "center = true" keeps the parts aligned to the center of the grid
cylinder(d=5, h=30, center=true); // d is the diameter and h is the height
}

Hours of something are ahead, well, at least making a cube of side 20mm with a hole in the middle.

OK an early update...

With his kind help and a bit of hand holding @ninj gave me some basic instruction on how to make some useful shapes, I’m now hooked on this little printer and will be able to start making something I need very soon, I have sourced a roll of filament locally, but I'm still waiting on delivery...
I wonder if @Nifty is hook on it yet.

I may be new here, so my opinion won't be worth much. But I'd love to see an area dedicated to 3D printing. Not doing so would make us kind of...one-dimensional...don't you think?

We will do some tests on aftermarket filaments: plasticity, hardness, durability, sensitive to UV radiation (becoming brittle, color change, becoming soft), just like now testing aftermarket inks. Resetters for chip protected 3D aftermarket refills .

Here’s an update...

I got the filament hooked up this morning and had great difficulty getting it to work, but after a bit of toing and froing, I managed to get my master piece printed out, the difficultly I was having was, I originally set up the printer for PLA but had purchased ABS filament instead.

It’s now possible to make all sorts of bits and pieces, like broken printer parts, levers, gears, paper roll holders etc., there is no real limit to what can be reproduced with this simple little printer, I am starting to look at everything very differently now.

I’m in the process of making a small box that I’ll need later and can’t wait to see how it turns out, I’ve just learned how to use the Ninkowski method to make the box more appealing...

P.S. Darn Mrs The Hat want the grass cut, just when it’s getting interesting...

It doesn’t look much, but boy is it fun...

Can you incorporate hinges in the design? A latch or lock?

This could get seriously fun.

It enables curved edges to be used on the inside and outside of your object, and not have sharp edges to it, the finish looks far better.

@ninj I reckon you may have just got @stratman interested in 3D printing, because it does become seriously good fun..
