Hi All,
I would apreciate it if anyone could test the latest Argyll_Printer_Profiler script, as some people requested a compatible version for windows. The script is now ported to python and should fully support MacOS, Linux and Windows.

The pretext for making this script was that I could not find any good scripts compatible with macOS, and the existing .bat commands on the forum did not run through the whole process, and not for any target desired. Anyway, I hope someone with try it and give some feedback on the forum.

The main features for the script are:
  • Run through the whole printer profile making process in few clicks: from target generation (tergen+printtarg), reading (charread), making profile (colprof) and outputing proifle report with extened statistics from that of profcheck.
  • Configure a set of predefined targets, and select them from a menu (6 for Colormunki and 6 for other instruments) (editable from ini file)
  • Configure all the defaults as you desire for later reuse (targen, printtarg, chartread, and colprof, with some limitations)
  • Re-measure / resume measurements on a previously incomplete / saved / interupted measurement set
  • Select any pre-existing target to measure and create profile.
  • Perform the "sanity check" with extended statistics on any profile with existing ti3 file
  • When creting a profile, a new folder is created with the name chosen for the profile, and needed files are copied and renamed automatically.
  • Selecting of ti2/3 files and icc files are done through a file dialog, so that one does not have to write long path strings.
Cheers,
K

I tried to have a look at the program, but I think some settings are based on the directory structure of MacOS (Unix):

See the yellow warning exclamation symbols on the top.

I tried the i1Pro method and the 960 patch version, but I think the layout is too elongated having no white gap at the beginning of a row to be read by the i1Pro:

This is caused by the -P argument in targen. This is ok, when you want to manipulate the target afterwards with PS to obtain a certain scanning experience, but just out of the box you will get a problem as the scanning guide is not long enough and you will have to start from a starting point outside the paper surface.

you want something like this with a white border onderneath for the scanning eye to start from and stops at a white area to succesfully scan a row:

Thanks so much for having a look at this @pharmacist !

I think some settings are based on the directory structure of MacOS (Unix)

Yes, in the script User Guide, section Getting Started I mention to change some parameters according to your need and platform. Since you are using windows, you will get these messages until you change the paths to some that actually exist. So the script checks for you if selected folder paths are valid.

The most important parameters, especially those with paths, can be interactively changed in menu option 6 using a selection pop-up window, so that one does not have to write long paths by hand.

Otherwise, the .ini file has examples on paths for the various parameters, and the User Guide has also some examples, such as path for icc-profile-installation.

I tried the i1Pro method and the 960 patch version, but I think the layout is too elongated having no white gap at the beginning of a row to be read by the i1Pro

Good feedback, finally. I mentioned in some previous posts (see this post), that the menu selection for "other" instruments than Colormunki is incomplete, and I need suggestions for proper correct settings for the 6 various choices. I do not have a i1Pro or other instrument than CM, so feedback on good commands that work for the most used instruments is sorely needed. For ex. a couple of most used patch numbers (one, two or three page targets), and possibly separate for A4 and Letter. Alternatively a targen+printtarg command setup that works for both A4 and Letter. That would save menu slots for more instrument types etc.

It would be very appreciated if you, or anyone else, can suggest some most used settings for most used instruments. Then the script can have better out-of-the-box useable commands for menu-option 1.

At least it seems that the script is working for you on Windows. Are you able to try out the various menu options? And/or give feedback on working target command for other instruments?

You can of course change the menu for other instruments you self as you desire in the .ini file.

Do you think it is a good start to add the commands for existing .bat scripts shared on the forum, like:
  • CAP750 - Single A4 sheet
  • CAP957 - Single A4 sheet
  • CAP2250 - Three A4 sheets
I do not know if these are good starting points, and I have not found a 2 sheet version, nor equivalents for Letter size. These are for i1Pro layout. I don't have examples for other instruments frequently used by this forum either.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Cheers,
K
