Have you ever had success with a refurbished printhead?

So I was given an ancient i9900 with the "5-blinks" bad printhead error. I mean, why not? I'd love to have a chipless medium format dye printer in rotation. So I bought a "tested" QY6-0055 printhead from an Amazon seller, and of course it's clogged up worse than the public restrooms at a burrito convention. I soaked it in ethylene glycol (per the MSDS sheet, that seems to be the main solvent in a BCI-6) for an overnight, and it got a teensy bit better, but not enough. No biggie, I'll return it, that's what Amazon is good for.

But I'm wondering: is it worth my time to try again? Do old refurbished Canon printheads *ever* work?

Also: if you're the keeper of an i9900 specifically, do you think I'd be better off paying the extra couple bucks for a QY6-0076?

Thanks for your advice!
