The field of printers which are desirable to own are quickly dwindling and there is not much choice remaining.
Of recent models, ones that are refillable, what do you recommend?

Are you serious, are they that good?
Only a brief experience with the Maxify MB5120 so far. It is SOHO printer, perfect for printing mixed text and images such as documents, articles and web pages. It is very fast. It does automatic duplex printing (and scanning with my model). All pigment inks, so fade resistant. It is easily refillable per members on the forum.

While image reproduction is adequate or good, it is not meant for high quality photo reproduction. I was pleasantly surprised with images, though. However, if photo reproduction is more important to you then look for a different printer.

Recommend, if you can, go to a brick and mortar store that has the Maxify on display and see a demo print to judge for yourself.

As in post above, it all depends on what you are looking to do.
First, refillable printer selection is dwindling.
There are situations a laser is appropriate and NOT an inkjet printer. Depends on use.

There still exists a sweet spot for printers. There are general rules. Forget about purchasing a photo printer that is only up to letter size. Those have been discontinued. The only sweet spots for photoprinting is the 13" wide carriage. Two from Canon, the Pro-100 and the Pro-10. Forget about the 13" wide MG or iP series. They are not worth the money at all. For Epson, two pigment printers...P400 and P600. Epsons should not be purchased by those squeamish about the use of ink even aftermarket ink. They should not be purchased by those who occasionally do not prints for weeks and then return to printing. The Epson models are hardly ever bargain priced , despite a rebate. The Canon selection in NA can sometimes be had for next to nothing after all rebates. Why? Canon ties their camera sales to the pushing on printers in the camera market. Epson does not have this.

Wider than 13" and the recommendations are highly complex decision processes.

What about the tank models? in NA, well considering the cost of a Maxify, why bother? For most people a Maxify XL cartridge will last for months of use.

Great answer. As I suspected. Thanks.

Maxify XL cartridge
Is your singular Maxify refill ink for ALL models of the Maxify? The Maxify ink you have for sale on Precision Colors is labeled for the PGI-1200 cartridge model. What about for the the newer PGI-2200 cartridge models?

It’s all the same Feckin ink
The dreaded "Universal" ink? Uh, oh.

I better order my refilling supplies soon or prepare for OEM sticker shock. At the rate I am printing I will run out of one or another color within 6-8 weeks.

That's why I paid a bit more for one with large cartridges (PGI-2500 -2200 in US).
With 3x19ml (1350p) color and 70ml (2500p) black it is close to an ink tank model.

I am rather disappointed with the MG and iP dye printers. Printheads have a limited life, and all refill inks fade.
Lost a lot of time with them.

In 10 days I am already down 1/3 on the Yellow and Black Cartridges. Primarily mixed text and image articles printed duplex. The solid colored backgrounds of charts and graphs is an ink guzzler. At this rate, will need replacement ink in ~2 weeks. :(

On the bright side, at this rate, I may have already refilled a cartridge with my old MP830. ;)

I suppose you have the setup carts, they are not full (but you can refill them afterwards up to or over the rated capacity).
Don't worry, the Maxify does not consume much ink.
