Hello all and Happy Holidays. I currently have a Canon MP530 all-in-one unit. It uses the Cli8 and the Pgi5 ink cartridges of which I have the resetter tool. I have the option of purchasing a 'spare' new MP530 so I know the ink cartridges it uses and have plus the resetter tool will still be of value. IF I don't get it, which Canon MP series all-in-one units uses these same cartridges so I can still use the resetter tool? Secondly, do you all believe the newer units are 'better' than the older one that I have. Sometimes this newer technology just makes it easier to cheapen the unit rather than improve it. Your thoughts are appreciated.. Thanks..

I would stick with the older printers that use the CLI-8 and PGI-5 cartridges. Each newer model used a smaller cartridge and got flimsier. You can find out which cartridges a printer uses by going to Canon's website and search for the printer model number. Then click on "What's in the Box" and you'll see what cartridges it uses.

MX 700 uses CLI 8, PGI 5 Carts. It does not use dye black. I picked one up for my kids a few months ago at Staples for $60 after rebate. It has a document feeder. They're very pleased with it.

You can still buy the MX700. It uses four inks, one pigment black and three dye colors. It does not allow automatic duplex but it does have internet capability.

Good all-in-one Canon printer using the good old PGI-5 and CLI-8 cartridges:

Canon MP500, MP600, MP610, MP800, MP810, MP830, MX850 (all of these mentioned do have an extra photo-black cartridge to enhance the print quality of photo's). The MX850 is probably the best all-in-one Canon printer using the PGI-5 and CLI-8 cartridges, but unfortunately the MP830 has a much better CCD-scanner. The MX850 only has a cheaper CIS-scanner, but print quality and printspeed is better than the MP830.

Pharmacist: can you still buy all these other printers new or are you suggesting looking for a used one?

maybe it is still possible, but I think it is very difficult to obtain one. I've got my MX850 just by chance and there was a huge discount so I grabbed one and 2 weeks later they were sold out.

Thanks, msmart, but I'm not the one that is looking for a printer and I'm trying to find out for the sake of others if there are any new ones available.
