Which black is used on a Canon 1p4300 when printing different material?

Normal plain paper and text modes use pigment black, while photo or high-quality/photo paper settings use dye/photo black, which is smeared with a highlighter.
If that was the case, none of this would of been happening since my 'default' setting is 'Plain Paper and either 'Standard' or 'Fast' no matter what the job is, OTHER than a photo or some other document that needs a 'better' print result especially when using higher grade paper. ;)

I just tried a number of random test using a 1 or 2 line series of letters.
I also checked "Grayscale" printing (which I doubt I ever used that) and the guaranteed 'smear' result was that which was expected.
Again I used Open Office and Notepad2 typing up a row of random letters (I didn't need a full page of text).

Mine you there is some 'smear' (1st line) normally, but not the 'wash' I sometimes get of very recent (last line)
