The only CLI-821/521/221 cartridge using grey ink is in the high end Canon MP980 (having 6 cartridges).

The iP4600 uses five cartridges (there is no gray). The CLI-221 cartridges all use dye inks. The PGI-220 cartridge uses a pigment black ink. See this link:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/c...categoryid=257&modelid=17105#ModelFeaturesAct

I don't know why you keep bringing up HP and Epson. You should get inks made for your Canon printer. I'm sure Image Specialists can sell you the exact inks you need for the Canon iP4600 without regard to HP or Epson.

Go to this page and select PIXMA iP4600 as the Printer:

http://www.image-specialists.com/ca...odelid=&inkName=&pagegrp=&currPage=&qsearch=0

You can see that they offer a medium gray ink, claiming that it is used in the iP4600, but this must be a mistake. All the numbers match what you posted for both the iP4600 and the iP4500 so you must have already been to this page or something similar. If you want to buy Image Specialists ink to refill your iP4600, just order the numbers listed for that printer except don't order the gray, you won't need it.
use bulk, where I live I do not think ink canon specifies!
just hp and epson!

@alimo, where do you live? What website do you plan to buy from? Then we can help narrow down the exact ink you should buy.

Bulk Ink For Refilling At Home

Anyone of the following will give good results:

http://www.inksupply.com/ selling MIS inks (reported to be Ink Specialty inks)

http://www.precisioncolors.com selling Ink Specialty inks

http://hobbicolors.com/ selling Hobbicolors inks

http://www.inktec.com/english/main.asp for InkTec inks (Google "Inktec" for retailors)

Aftermarket ink from these retailors can be added to and mixed with Canon OEM ink still left in the cartridge.

Advanced User Tip - If you want the best color output then you will need to purge the Canon OEM ink out completely (see below) (or run a couple cartridges full of the aftermarket ink to wash out the Canon OEM ink), refill with one of the inks listed above, then obtain/purchase an ICC Printer Profile for your printer, ink and paper combination. You can purchase one from places like http://www.cathysprofiles.com/. Many casual hobbyists do not purchase an ICC Printer Profile and are satisfied with their color output. You'll know whether you're happy with the colors in your photos after printing out a few pictures. Much has been discussed about ICC Printer Profiles in this forum. Do a search if interested.

CAUTION: Some bulk ink retailers sell a "pigment only" black PGI-5 ink and/or a combination "pigment plus dye" black ink for the PGI-5. Make sure to get the "pigment only" PGI-5 if you want the best results, particularly for highlighting. It will cost a bit more but has the best chance of mimicking Canon OEM PGI-5 ink.

Do you need instructions on how to purge (flush with water to clean out old ink) and refill the cartridges?

I just realized my post to you on refilling with bulk ink makes reference to the OEM Canon cartridge "PGI-5". This is for Pigmented Black ink and the cartridge has very similar dimensions to your PGI-220 Pigment Black cartridge. Whatever the dimesions, the ink used in the PGI-220 Pigment Black and the CLI-221 CYAN (dye) ink appears to be different than the PGI-5 Pigment Black and CLI-5 CYAN (dye) ink. Compare the ink identification numbers on the bottle labels for the inks on these two Image Specialists eBay auction pages:

IP4600 - http://cgi.ebay.ca/12oz-Value-Kit-f...ries?hash=item2ea594f3c2&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14

MP830 - http://cgi.ebay.ca/6oz-Refill-Kit-f...ries?hash=item1e51aef94d&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14

The point to be aware of is to purchase the correct ink for your printer. Fellow Nifty-Stuff forum member Mikling is the eBay seller of Image Specialists inks. You can email him with questions about the inks and make sure you purchase exactly what you need. He is a good guy and has always been helpful with me. I have used his CLI-8 type inks for over a year and am very pleased.

Any of the retailors I listed in my previous post should work well. One or more may be more economical for you, especially given your location.
