I still don't understand. Are you asking if you can refill the cartridges for your Canon iP4600 printer with ink designed for a different brand of printer (like Epson or HP)? Or are you asking what kind of ink should be used for all three brands of printers (Canon, Epson and HP)? Or are you just trying to figure out whether you should use pigment or dye ink in your Canon printer? Or are you asking whether you should use pigment or dye ink in Canon, Epson and HP printers? I'm sorry, but I just can't understand what you are looking for.

Here are the Image Specialist numbers
CLI-221BK BLACK DYE WJ1109 (4500=WJ1109)
CLI-221C CYAN DYE WJ244 (4500= WJ2032)
CLI-221GR GRAY DYE WJ1120 (4500=none)
CLI-221M MAGENTA DYE WJ6121 (4500=WJ6121)
CLI-221Y YELLOW DYE WJ797 (4500= WJ797)
PGI-220 BLACK PIGMENT WJ1128 (4500=WJ1020)
Okay so it looks like the black pigment and cyan take a different ink,
at least in Image Specialists.

The iP4600 uses five cartridges (there is no gray). The CLI-221 cartridges all use dye inks. The PGI-220 cartridge uses a pigment black ink. See this link:

I don't know why you keep bringing up HP and Epson. You should get inks made for your Canon printer. I'm sure Image Specialists can sell you the exact inks you need for the Canon iP4600 without regard to HP or Epson.
Go to this page and select PIXMA iP4600 as the Printer:

You can see that they offer a medium gray ink, claiming that it is used in the iP4600, but this must be a mistake. All the numbers match what you posted for both the iP4600 and the iP4500 so you must have already been to this page or something similar. If you want to buy Image Specialists ink to refill your iP4600, just order the numbers listed for that printer except don't order the gray, you won't need it.
