WeInk.com cs response: There CRU contains Formulab ink

Well not to doubt the information posted here, but I just asked WeInk.com a question, and here is their reply:

By asking "which kind?" I meant were there different Formulab ink grades in quality. I guess to get the answer to that I should have actually phrased my question as above.

If you go to the Formulabs web site there is a listing of all the inks they manufacture. You will find that they only make one grade of ink based upon the stock numbers. WeInk is a reputable supplier with a good reputation. However, www.alotofthings.com which is located only a few miles from the Sensient-Formulabs facilities sells Formulabs ink in bulk and the Arrowjet cartridges they sell are also filled with Formulabs ink. The prices from Alotofthings is lower than most other vendors, especially if you order from their eBay store.

How did you like that ink? I got "Arrow" carts supposedly containing Formulabs ink from alotofthings.com, and I think it's really unbalanced. Purple/magenta shadows, yellow mids and skin.

It's basically impossible to print a gradient of dark browns without getting some funky cast, and incorrectable.

Sorry for such a delayed reply but I have been having such troublefree fun with my canon printers. The ink is twice as expensive from weink 5.99 compared to inkjetgrabber 2.95, and I THINK they are the same ink! because the outside packaging is identical (yellow and blue G+G). Maybe a pro at this forum can validate that. I run a business with three canon printer and all in ones and don't have time to refill so I just buy catridges, cheap catridges good quality catridges in large quanitites, BUT I can say that never ever buy HP ink from them (inkjetgrabber). The stuff clogs for the first 10 pages and I have gone through two printhead replacements (40$ a head!) . Its the Ink in yelow and blue packaging. I hate it. Any good HP ink catridge sites? I have a offciejet7110.

Unless there is a recent change, Inkgrabber ink is not Formulabs ink. I know that from using Grandads custom printer profiles for Inkgrabber and Formulabs inks on BIJC#2.

When I called Image Specialists I asked them who could sell me small quantities of their ink and they said to contact WeInk. I guess it is possible that a distributor could carry a few of the major ink suppliers.

However they only sell them in packs of 4 cartridges per color at $7.99 per pack and they only warranty them for 30 days rather than 1 year.

weink opened a new website just to distribute IS inks, but only in 500 mL sizes and larger. The prices are pretty good, only $24.99 per 500 mL bottle for the canon inks and only $54.99 for the 500 mL bottles of the pigment inks for epson and my VIP discount gets me another 10% off those prices.

CanonPhreak, thanks for the posts. Where did you get that info? Did you give them a call or did they send it over in an email? I wonder what the deal is with those cheap cartridges? Why so cheap and why only 30 days warranty? Seems a little suspicious to me.

I speak with John Mills at weink at least once a month, of course I have a VIP membership which entitles me to premium phone support for my various refill kits and continuous systems. Billy Pyrne usually handles their e-mail support.

I am paraphrasing what John told me about the cheap cartridges:

"The economy cartridges are manufactured either by ninestar or tully both located in china. Both use Sensient formulabs inks, HOWEVER, they often slip the epson version dye inks in the BCI-6 cartridges from batch to batch as do many other compatible makers. This results in an imbalanced photo-cyan and photo-magenta which can cause color shifts in 6 and 8 color canon printers. For this reason we treat all pre-filled import cartridges for canon and epson printers as economy grade and recommend the use of our UltraFLO for canon inks for professionals needing a consistent quality ink for profiled systems. The economy canon cartridges we sell through weink.com carry a 1 year warranty from us against out of box defects from the date of purchase. We sell the same product for canon through our self-service website, yourinkexpress.com, however they are only warrantied for 30 days from the date of purchase and are sold only in multiple packs of 2, 4, or 6 cartridges per color."

Basically, he said, you get what you pay for. He recommended the economy grade cartridges for non-critical applications in the 4 and 5 cartridge canon printers and recommended that 6 and 8 color canon users should consider a refill kit or camelfo since they have direct control over what inks are used in those systems.
