update: printer refill numbers - was 983 refills, now 2,000 refills. much thanks to this site and its members

I can't compete with those record refill numbers - I enjoy the convenience of printers with a CISS or large cartridges - 220ml - for one refill
 
Thanks PeterBJ for your information will get a new battery to be on the safe side.
it would also enable me to check the stock of empty alleged Magenta carts I got off E-bay they looked spotless.

You can always rely on expert help on this Forum.

I have had a few chips go bad possibly caused by a redsetter running low on battery.

The PGI-520/CLI-521 redsetter uses around 5mA during a reset. To test the CR2032 cell in a realistic way with a simulated load the cell should be tested with a voltmeter in parallel with a resistor of 3.3/.005 = 660 Ohms. Use a standard 680 Ohm 1/4 W resistor.

The use of a high input impedance voltmeter without load resistor in parallel might lead to a false good indication. More about resetters and batteries in this thread.

I still have an old (2008) iP4500 semi-retired, that I use from time to time because it’s not good for high quality photos, but still acceptable, it has the original print head in it and has clocked up over 54,000, I wonder is that a record for an original print head... :hu
 
It might well be a record. The original print head in iP4500 was QY6-0067. IIRC I read on the druckerchannel.de Canon forum that this print head had a reputation of being fragile. The fact that a replacement type, QY6-0075 was introduced makes me think it's plausible that the original print head was fragile.
 
54,000 pages on a print head is amazing, congrats !

i just checked my numbers and looks like i usually get 20,000 - 22,000 on an 830 print head.

i do have a brand new 4500 stored away, bought it in 2008 for $99 so to get an extra set of PGI5/CLI8 carts for my 830.

the 4500 is one the best canon printers as far as build quality.
