I have just got my IP4500, found 12 empty original Canon cartridges on ebay (for 1 UK pound!) and am now researching refill inks. From what I have read on this forum the following seem popular;

1. Hobbicolors...available from ebay and they ship to the UK. Richer colours so would probably need profiling?

2. InkTec...good..close colour match to Canon..not sure where to get from in the UK but seem to be able to get from Europe.

3. Precision Colors Image Specialists ink. Not sure how close to original Canon colours..profiling needed? I note they say " All colors exactly match the original producing predictable consistent colors on all varieties of papers without needing fine tuning adjustments" .Not sure if they ship to UK (wait till 12th May!).

Questions.
Opinions on above 3 inks.
Any UK users used any of these. If so where did they source them from?
Anyone any experience of using the above with IP4500?
Any other "as good" inks.
How many refills from a 2oz bottle for the CLI-8 cartridge?

I'm only looking at small amounts of ink at first. 2oz bottles? Certainly not 1 litre.

Using inks from Pro Tec www.proprint.co.uk here in the Scottish Borders in my iP3500. Pigment black and Dye C M Y work very well and results compare favourably with Canon ink.
Helpfull company

Doug, thanks. Do you have any reference numbers for the different inks, or do they only sell one type for the Canon? I find the site very confusing.

excellent results with precision colors Image Specialist inks in my Canon i960 and ip5000 printers. No tinkering with the original Canon profiles. They work just fine. I'm in the US

Stevec,

Alle the inks you mentioned can be delivered to Europe. I use both Hobbicolors UW-8 and Precisioncolors K4 pigment inks from California and Canada and I order Inktec ink from Germany. Note that I am from Belgium.

Thanks for that.
I found the Image Specialists website and ordered up some samples (nice of them to offer that). I wait to see if they get delivered here. I'm assuming it's the same Image Specialists (Holtsville N.Y.) as supplied by Precision Colors.

Pharmacist, which supplier do you use in Germany. I found one on the web but have lost the link now.

If you get anywhere with the Image Specialists inks then the local supplier is in Holland and can ship to the UK fine...

www.refillink.biz (truly awful website but good ink :))

Stevec,

This the link you want: www.tintenalarm.de. Bottles available in 100 ml and 1 liter. However I would recommend you the KMP-PMT pigment ink for the BCI-3eBk/PGI-5Bk cartridges, as this ink is more rub/highlighter/water resistant then the Inktec pigment ink and black is darker and cheaper too.
