Epson 3880. Close cover alert

I get the close cover message on startup. The cover is closed, however. I have looked for a lever or tab that the cover should engage on closing but no luck. Ideas?

There's a sensor on the left corner of the printer that pops off when released. Clean the sensor area and contacts with a cotton q-tip and IPA. I have one of my 3880s open so I took a picture to show you where it is.
