OK..... Go to the printer driver preferences, then the Maintenance Tab.
There go Nozzle Check and print that out. You will see a series or light colored bands representing each cart color. If you see a smooth band across the printer paper you are good to go. If you have GAPS you are not.

You can not print anything but these nozzle check until your head is completely cleared.

You use original canon carts? Or do you use third party cart? If so you should really consider switching back to Original.
There are some real CANON experts here and they will come to your rescue soon. It sounds like you are not experienced with the innards of printers so just hang in there till other pipe in.

If your printer is under warranty then call Canon Tech Support and you may get replacement parts or printer at no cost.

If your printer is out of warranty then follow all of what jtoolman said. Print nothing but nozzle checks until recommended otherwise. Canon print head nozzles heat ink and need the ink to be present to keep it cool. Lack of ink may result in permanently burned out nozzles requiring a new print head.

Print a nozzle check and then post an image of the nozzle check here. Use the following instructions on how to post your image: http://www.printerknowledge.com/thr...s-images-to-printerknowledge.8227/#post-63604.

Include in your post what ink cartridges you use - OEM Canon or aftermarket. Do you refill and if so then what brand of aftermarket ink and by which method, traditional top fill or the Durchstich German method.

Someone will then be able to help you further.
