Last such printer was IP6700D great little printer.
According to my observation, 6-ink CMYKlclm (C/M@5pl, lc/lm@5pl+2pl ) was replaced by much simpler 4-ink CMYK with three droplet sizes: 5, 2 and 1pl. 2pl C/M is equivalent to 5 pl lc/lm and 1pl C/M is equivalent to 2 pl lc/lm.

QY6-0074/0078 printers added GY ink at 5, 2 and 1pl droplets, in my feeling ultimate ink setup for low-range printer.

The 6700D printer specified minimum droplet 1pl, where did you get the (C/M@5pl, lc/lm@5pl+2pl )?

Canon fine integrated cart print heads also use 1pl, but have no light inks, they use the same ink. The 6700D uses light cyan, and light magenta with 1pl nozzles, even PRO-9000 or PRO-100 from today's printers does not use 1pl nozzles, did it turn to be clogging too much I guess? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you all for your help, especially @The Hat! :D I now have a Canon Pixma Pro 100 on its' way from America, all parts included, at £181 after shipping, duty and exchange rates. I'll probably have to get a new power cord but I'm happy that I don't have to pay £350 - £360 as I feared. The printer itself was $140! My only worry is if it comes through ParcelForce. If that happens then its' life expectancy will decrease massively.

My next problem will be printable CDs and paper, it will be fun experimenting though. I'll definitely be ordering from Octoink with my next pay, I'm thinking of going for the 100ml starter. Anyone know the shelf life of their ink? I think it may be worth purchasing some empty cartridges too and selling the new ones, is this reasonable?

Congratulations on figuring out how to obtain the printer for that lower than expected amount. I raised this topic of buying from America but some members thought the shipping and customs charges would end up still costing a pretty farthing (or pretty penny as we say in the Colonies). Maybe you could share your methods after you receive your printer.

Sounds like a good idea. Depending on how much you print, plus figuring out which colors you tend to use the fastest, will determine how much of each color to buy in the future.

Generally 2 years. Keep in cool dry place away from sunlight.

Sure. Even if you keep the cartridges, I recommend NOT using the Yellow that came with the printer but using Octoinkjet's Image Specialists Yellow from the very beginning. You will need to transfer the chip onto the replacement cartridge depending on what cartridge you will use. Octoinkjet has a web page on this: http://www.octoink.co.uk/kb/questions/186/CLI-42Y (Yellow) Cartridge - Special Considerations

@stratman Wow, that's a pretty comprehensive reply, you've even answered questions I'd forgotten to ask! I do intend to write a detailed report of my experiences once I've recieved my printer and have run through some prints. It's been a much better experience so far than I initially imagined and I put that down to the support offered here. A lot of the information I've found elsewhere is obviously biased and has been generally lacking in important details.

Yes, I've had glance over the details there already and thought this might be the best way to go. The only erring I have is in replacing the chip; I've no idea where to begin! I may order all the kit I need ASAP and get cracking but it's been a long day so I think I'll leave the research and decisions until tomorrow. :plbb

@Smile I live in Coventry, England. I resurrected my old eBay account and browsed .co.uk and .com seperately (oddly the results vary. You get some American ones popping up on .co.uk that you don't see on .com and vice versa.) to find a cheap Buy It Now and gauge the costs. There are a great deal out there that have been purchased for the rebate then cannibalised. However, I managed to find one on auction intact save for the ucb at $70 and due to expire within the hour.

EBay deals with all the shipping, sending it through dedicated handling sites at each end. Depending on your and the sellers location the shipping cost varies but this is fixed and visible from the start. The only price that varies over the auction is the tax; this was $30 ish come sale but started around $20. The exchange wasn't bad at around £5. There are no further charges upon receipt, everything is handled at auction.

My printer won't arrive until the end of Nov but thanks to eBay you get international tracking so I'll keep you posted on the times if you like. :) Thankfully buyer protection extends overseas so it's pretty risk free; all in all you can gauge pretty close to what you'll pay at every step and if things go wrong you'll likely be alright if you've read the description. This link may interest you further: eBay GSP (Global Shipping Program). If I find any problems I'll let you know!

For chip transfer see this.

I wonder if you will also have to pay customs and VAT as you are importing the printer from a country outside the EU?

I wonder same thing, if you buy from US, the VAT is not calculated for printers in my country, but TAX is huge 21% and you have to pay courier price for paperwork that is about 50$.

@PeterBJ @Smile From what I can see in Britain at least the customs and VAT charges are declared already, eBay seem to take care of all that. From reading the GSP it all seems pretty new; there are a lot of sellers out there claiming not to ship internationally yet they have international shipping costs. The GSP terms and conditions even call it GPS at one point! I did read somewhere that VAT wouldn't be charged and that all costs are final but unfortunately I've been unable to relocate the information. I'll link to anything I find that might be of interest, but unfortunately it all seems geared towards UK-USA interaction. :caf

On a side note I've located what appear to be the perfect CDRs to fit my need. Have any of you experience with JVC Watershields? This is the best price I've been able to find for any quantity but I'm hoping to find the time to call the seller directly tomorrow regarding multibuys and discounts. Thankfully they're based in England!
