Offset paper ICC profiles and borderless printing problems with Pixma Pro 10s

Checked the print head. There was no clogged ink underneath it. Cleaned it anyway, but the problem persists.

I printed some Grayscale images and I could hear the print head rubbing against the paper. In this case Fomai Portrait Matt 230g - a proper InkJet paper. This time there were no smudges, but after printing I could see physical marks on the paper when looked at a certain angel so that I could see light reflecting from the paper.

I can use the "Prevent Paper Abrasion", but still. I'd like to understand why this is as I am sure the option is meant for some special cases and not for every single time.

I am sorry but it is, if you use paper that is outside the normal photo paper parameters or the paper suffers from bow, bend or curls, then that is the best and only opten open to you, try to work with the printer and except it’s limitations.

You have to remember the printer is designed to be used on quality photo papers and it preform that job extremely well, if however, an owner decides to print outside those parameters then they have to expect to meet some unusual problems, it’s a photo printer not a graphic printer..

If you are using "Prevent Paper Abrasion" and are still getting scuff marks on the paper surface then the only other possibility is your paper is not completely flat or your trying to print borderless...

Whenever I print on sheets of photo paper cut from a roll, I always use ‘avoid abrasion of paper”. I know, it’s annoying having to confirm every time that you want to use this option before the machine starts printing but, as @The Hat said, any paper which isn’t perfectly flat is bound to make trouble, be it scratches, banding or stains.

Some printers of higher range, like the Canon Pro1000, use a vacuum paper feed which, I guess, eliminates totally the problem but you have to pay a lot for this feature.
With a Pro10/100, provided the curling or unevenness isn’t exaggerated, ‘avoid abrasion of paper” fixes the issue without undesirable effects. I can’t detect any difference in quality between prints made with this setting ON or OFF,

@Artur5, the Prevent Paper Abrasion" option can be set as default by accessing Printer Preferences in Windows Control Panel, it can then be used Automatically for all your prints, without having to reset it every time.

It is also easily turned off if you just want one print without using Paper Abrasion, by accessing the printer Preferences in the print driver, it resets back to staying on for the very next print..

Thanks @The Hat, Yes, I know that the feature can be set as default in the ‘printer preferences’. What I mean is that every time you send a printing job, before starting, the driver warns that you have ‘avoid paper abrasion’ set and asks if you want to continue or cancel the printing.

At present my Pro10s is inoperative, due to a problem with the resetter mentioned in another thread, so I can’t check but I don’t think that this warning message can be disabled.
