Why is there no option "I use the ready-made compatibles"?

This poll is about why you refill. Here is a poll about which method you use. I think the use of compatible cartridges can not be considered refilling. A new poll might be needed. I think it could be something like this:

Which type of ink cartridges do you use?

  • New OEM
  • Refilled OEM
  • Commercially remanufactured OEM
  • New compatible for single use
  • Refilled compatible cartridges intended for single use
  • Refillable compatible cartridges
@Nifty Do you think a such poll would be relevant? At least for Canon printers I think Refilled OEM will be the winner.

But not all printers are equally refill friendly. If Printer make and model should be included, a fill-in form would be needed I think. Analysing data would then no longer be a simple task.

The Hat posted while I was typing.

This is a great list! Any other items we should include and/or change?

  • New OEM
  • Refilled OEM
  • Commercially remanufactured OEM
  • New compatible for single use
  • Refilled compatible cartridges intended for single use
  • Refillable compatible cartridges

I've never refilled until now. I had an Epson 4000 (was great when it wasn't clogged, but it always was). I threw that out and got a Canon IPF5100, which I had for a few years. Probably the best printer I ever owned. Then one of the heads went bad, in spite of very light usage, which meant the other couldn't be far behind. Too expensive, so that also went into the garbage. Being a bit pissed at Canon for not helping me based on my light usage, I decided to try the Epson 3880. Bought a refurb model, which died after 7 months. Threw that out too, and decided I would never own another printer. Then Canon ran a deal at Adorama for the Canon Pro-10, which was pretty much free. So I figured a free printer sounds good, if I have to throw this one out at least my investment was minimal. In spite of it only being 13" wide, and rather slow, I like it. But the ink cartridges are teeny, which meant they were always running out, even after a few prints (what with automatic head cleanings and such). So running the printer seemed quite expensive. Like I said, I never thought to mess with non-OEM ink before, but buying (and throwing out) all these little cartridges seemed a bit ridiculous. So I recently bought the whole works from Precision Color, inks, resetter, scale, syringes, etc. So far so good, altho right now some ink is Canon, some PC. I feel kind of guilty about the whole thing, since as we have been told 'the companies lose money on the printers and make it on the ink'. It worries me that there seems to be little in the way of new printer innovation and maybe this is why. But on this Pro-10 I feel I didn't have much of a choice, after constantly buying cartridges.
