MX7600 PGI-7BK reset

I have the European resetter from OctoInk.
Works fine for all PGI-9 cartridges, also in the Pro 9500.

Since the PGI-7 cartridge is too thick, I placed the chip in a PGI-9 cartridge to reset it.
No lights, no reset.
Not a big deal since the OEM with 25ml at 10 EUR is not so expensive, but it is a matter of principle .
I also have the option of disabling the low ink warning.
Does someone has other ideas ?

Same for the Clear cartridge, OEM about 200ml for 10 EUR.
Wonder where the chip is anyway.

You got the right idea on how to reset the PGI-7 chip but you’re using the wrong resetter !

That chip as far as I know is the same as a PGI-5 chip so you’ll need a 521/520 redsetter and then it will work for you, that’s what I use for my PGI-7 cartridge.

The clear PGI-9 cartridge doesn’t have any chip on it at all and you can’t get good Optimiser for it either so it’s actually cheaper to use the OEM new cartridge then to source the optimiser elsewhere.

Just to be sure, Hat, did you mean the 521/520 or should it be the PGI-8/PGI-5 re(d)setter ?

The use of a wrong resetter could ruin the chip. It has been attempted to change PGI-220/CLI-221 chips into PGI-225/CLI-226 chips using a resetter for PGI-225/CLI-225, so the windowed cartridges could be used in stead of the opaque cartridges, for ease of refill. It is possible to use the windowed cartridges in stead of the opaque ones, but you will need to do a chip transfer. IIRC @mikling reported the failed attempt to change chip type.

There has been reports of successful region changes, changing American PGI-220/CLI-221 chips into European PGI-520/CLI-521 chips using an original Redsetter for the European cartridges, or maybe it was the other way around.

As the PGI-7 cartridges seem not to be regionalized, my guess is that @The Hat used a PGI-5/CLI-8 resetter.

I tried the CLI-8 resetter but it didn’t work so I now use the one for the iP4700 520/521 carts, the PGI-7 chip appears not to reset properly using this resetter but it does despite failing to show a continuous red LED.

The CLI-8 resetter only works on the other 8 carts which excludes the grey and black..

Thanks for the info, your IX7000 printer is very close to my MX7600.

What is missing compared to a full reset ?
Does it show the ink level again, or at least warns for low level ?

If not, what's the difference with disabling the ink warning as I did ?
Temporarily I hope, too stupid to risk a fine printer for the cost of a resetter.

I suppose you have the 520/521 Redsetter ?

My ink level in the PGI-7 cart is showing as full as does the other PGI-9 carts using the CLI-8/ PGI-9 redsetter, no difference at all !

Why it works I don’t know but it does and if it didn’t I would have no hesitation disabling the ink monitoring on that cart till I found a solution, I wouldn't let that stop me from printing.

My redsetter is the cheap battery type for 520/521 chipped CLI-8 carts in use in my iP4700 and not as fancy as the one shown in your link.

I received the 520/521 Redsetter (from octoink).
Placed the chip from the PGI-7 on a PGI-9 to insert in the resetter.
No light, no reset.
(since I changed the cartridge the printer is now again in low ink warning mode)

Possibly the PGI-9 cartridge does not physically fit the 520/521 resetter.
Will check this.

You'll have to remove the chip from the PGI-7 cartridges because the cartridge is to big to fit that type of resetter and the chip position in not centred either.

I use a CLI-8 cartridge for the purpose of resetting and just move it back afterwards, you can also use a PGI-5 large cartridge if you don’t have a CLI-8 spare, the PGI-9 is a little bit more difficult..

I only have PGI-525/CLI-526 cartridges, but aren't they the same size as 520/521 ?
