Magenta issue

I refilled my Magenta cart last week and it stopped printing in that colour on my MG5350! I checked the ink flow and it was OK. So next I cleaned the print head over night and it printed the first pattern check OK but not perfect, so I ran clean cycle but then I got no magenta!

Next I tried a replacement cart but still not luck!

Not being one to give up I cleaned the print head for two days but again goodish magenta on the first test print but after cleaning no magenta at all.

There is also poor printing on the PGBK but that's not the main problem here.

Update. I gave all the carts a deep clean and the Magenta came back OK but the PGBK as still not right, so I gave that a stand alone clean. Test print then had no magenta again !

The symptoms being experienced are due to cartridge flow deficiencies. Anytime a head clean yields a return of a good patter only to fail again, it indicates that the printhead is being starved of ink. The remedy to this is restore the ink flow problem.

You might wish to assess the situation by considering

1. The physical ink level in the cartridge. It could be very low despite what the chip says.
2. If you are using compatibles, take steps to ensure that the compatibles are allowing air flow back into the reservoir side.
3. If you have refilled many time prior to this happening, then you will need to either replace or refurbish the cartridge with a flush and dry.

When the above is done you will likely have returned the printer to normal working condition. Do keep in mind that compatibles tend to "age" faster due to much greater ink evaporation as opposed to OEM carts. As a result, flushing will be required most times in about after a year of use. This can vary depending on climate and humidity levels.

Yes I think you are right regards the ink flow. It's been a while since I have flushed the magenta cart and the PGBK come to that. I'm going to flush out a few carts today but I've also ordered a PGBK compatible to see if that helps the black issue. Also I know my inks are really too old and it's time to get a new batch. After running a couple of deep cleans and printing about six test pages in a row the magenta is back almost 100% and PGBK still has the odd bit missing.
It's good to know it's not the print-head.

When you have ink flow problems, it not vey prudent to print test sheets until you have taken the necessary steps to correct the affect colour cartridges first, otherwise it can become a print head issue rather quickly..

All carts flushed and refilled with new ink which I received this week from OctoInkjet. I also cleaned the print-head again while I was waiting for the ink to arrive. Still no luck. In fact the PGBK is now not working as well as it did before and after two deep cleans the magenta doesn't show on a nozzle check. Where do I go from here?
