Let's imagine that:
LASER -- INKJET
==============
Toner -- Ink | What leaves marks on paper
Drum -- Print head | What transfer ^ onto paper
Fuser -- air
| What make those 2 stuffs stick together.
Refilling wrong type of ink will ruin the print head. Refilling wrong type of toner will ruin the drum and especially the fuser.
Inkjet: if integrated print head is damage, one will need to buy a whole new ink cartridge. If separated print head is damage, one will need to buy a new printer as replacement cost is approx the same.
Laser: if integrated drum is damage, one will need to buy a whole new toner cartridge. If separated drum is damage, one can buy a new one as replacement cost is just as expensive as a cartridge.
Inkjet: air is ubiquitous!
Laser: fuser is always separated from the cartridge. If the fuser is damage, one would definitely buy a new printer as replacement cost is almost certainly the same or higher.
In term of refilling world:
With inkjet printers, one usually be advised to buy ones that have individual ink cartridges and separated print head unit. Ones with integrated-printhead ink cartridges are not recommended.
=> So, with laser printers, should we choose separated drum unit and toner cartridges? Or the integrated ones?
P/S: Most inkjet printer manufacturers make both integrated and separated version. Most laser printer manufacturers make only integrated version.
