It depends!!! This day there are two types of CISS for printer like the R1900. I've gone through two systems and I am back to single carts I can reset and refill myself. Why?
Unless you can find a CISS that will AUTOMATICALLY reset each cart to full every time you reach empty on a color. In other words. Without having to turn off the printer, or remove and reinstall the cart set, then fine. You can print print and print some more with the only concern being adding ink to the outboard ink reservoirs.

However the new trend is to have a bank of chips with a little push button or slide switches. You end up either performing a resetting procedure every time a color position goers empty. That will be followed by a purge cycle and then you can continue printing. A RATF chip bar will allow you to reset ALL carts to full after the first color position shows empty. So obviously that would be a better scenario since you KNOW you have a constant source of ink from the CISS.

Unless you are printing huge #s of images on a daily basis you really don't need to switch to a CISS. I know it sounds good at first glance but believe me on this one. I am a pro photographer, Pro only because I make a profit at it. I don't reallyu have a need for a CISS.

My two cents worth.

Thanks! great information, I am glad I didn't use CISS. I don't do a lot of printing. Any ink brand you can suggest? The one I am using right now doesn't look as good as I wanted, but I'll do more printing to see.

I am using Image Specialists wish you can get from Precision Colors Ebay store. Cannot complain. The only thing I do which adds some extra cost is buy 4 packs or OEM gloss optimizer and substitute the OEM O/P/ cart with the refillable.
If your carts use V-6 chips, you can run the two side by side. If you don't mind the sub standard gloss basically all 3rd party Gloss Op provides then go ahead and stay with it.
