I have a MX850. A local seller is selling a MP830 very cheap. I am planning to get the MP830 as a backup printhead for my MX850. But the spec is not quite the same.

MX850
Number of Nozzles
Nozzles: Black:512
Color: 4,096
Total: 4,608

Picoliter Size (color)
1, 2 and 5

MP830
Number of Nozzles
Black: 512
Color: 512 x 2 (Y, Bk) 1,024 x 2 (C,M)
Total: 3,584
Picoliter Size (color)
1 and 5

Can I put the MP830 printhead into my MX850?

I know, I know, I have accumulated quite a few printers since I joint this forum 2 short months ago. But I cannot help it. Five Canon OEM cartridges alone will worth the $15 that I will be paying for this MP830.

They are not the same, it may fit but with the different number of printheads means different contacts and you risk burning out your printer by swtiching them. Same thing happened to me someone was advertising on ebay a ip3600 as an ip4600, not the same. Fits but contacts are different. If you wanna risk blowing up both printhead and printer you can go ahead.

No, you cannot interchange printheads if there is any difference in the nozzle counts and even if the nozzle counts are the same, you still may not be able to interchange them. The best way to find out if two printers use the same printhead is to look for some place that is selling replacement printheads and see which printers they say use the same printhead.

The MX850 uses the same printhead as the IP4500 and the MP830 uses the IP5300 printhead, so not interchangeble as mentioned before.

Thank you for everybody's help.

Now, I know that my iP4500 (x2), MX850 and MP610 are using the same print head.

But I will buy the MP830 for $15 just for the Canon cartridges.

BTW, The Source by Circuit City in Canada is clearing out the iP4500 for $40. At this point, most of them are display unit with the cartridge out. If you are lucky, you may find a sealed-in-box unit. It is not available online. You need to check store stock. Most of the store are out of it. Happy hunting... I was lucky and picked up a new sealed-in-box unit last week.

According to the OSD pages posted by panos, the iP5300 uses the same printhead as the MX850/iP4500. But iP5200 uses the same printhead as the MP830.

Embguy,

you are right. Just a slip of the pen: it was the IP5200 that uses the same printhead as the MP830.

So the iP4500 and iP5200 don't share the same print head? They both seem to say they use a QY6-0061-000 print head.

Hmm... maybe they are different... further searching says the iP4500 used a QY6-0075-000 print head. It's the iP5200 that uses the 0061 print head.

An iP5200 is listed on craigslist for $25USD, I offered $20. I was hoping to get a backup print head. Oh well, it's still a good deal for the tanks, no?
