I just started using my new Pro 3880.
I printed an auto nozzle check and a few 5 x 7" photos
I noticed that there is already a lot of ink in the waste tank.
An empty tank weights 179 g, mine already 285 g.
Is it normal that I have already used 106 g approx. 106 ml mainly black ink?

Hi Harry,

The first time installing your new printer, the tubing system and print head must be primed. So a lot of ink is dumped into your waste ink tank. No: it is not black ink only, but a mixture of all your cartridges. As you might have noticed: the waste ink level is about 30% reduced to about 70% or even less. This is totally normal.

Thank you Pharmacist for your clear explanation of the reasons why so much ink is dumped!

Hi harry,

It’s not just ink that gets dumped into your Maintenance cartridge, when you first turn on your new printer it has cleaning fluid in the tubing which has to be flushed out also..
