Hi everybody,

I have an HP OfficeJet 7000 Wide Format.

I've received this printer as a gift because I'm printing lots of A3 format pictures.

I'm interrested by a CISS system (because of its capacity) or a refillables cartridges.

But people I'm talking with told me that the CISS is not adapted for this printer because of air leaking between the cartridge and the printhead. :/

Is that right?

If yes, will the refillables cartridges be the same?

Does anyone have good websites where I can buy these systems (but I want them empty to be able to refill with my chosen ink)?

For the CISS system and for the refillables cartridges, I need to reuse the chip of a genuine cartridge and put it on the CISS catridge/refillable cartridge.

I've seen on the web that for HP OfficeJet 6000, it's possible to bypass the ink lever warning. I think that on my HP OfficeJet 7000, it will be the same.

Can anyone confirm that?

I also have an other question:

Will I lose the ink level forever or will I recover the ink level warning if I use new genuine cartridges?

I'm interrested by inks from "Image Specialists".

Does anyone have the references of theses inks (my printer uses HP920/HP920XL cartridges with vivera ink)?

Check the Image Specialists Web site or http://home.eol.ca/~mikling/ for compatible ink. If it's not listed, contact Image Specialists for the ink numbers. You can get reasonable quantities from Mikling.

OK. I already know this website.

But all CISS is full of ink and I'm not interrested by a filled CISS...

I want to use my own ink on it. I don't like to use unknown ink.

And on octoink, they told me that it's not good to use a CISS system on my printer because of air leaking.

I don't know if it's true or not...

That's why I was interrested by refillables cartridges too if there's no problem with air leaking (even if I would prefer a CISS system for my A3 printer).

Any ideas?

I've already contacted Image Speacialists. It's their ink that interrested me.

They told me to use:

WJ1020 (black pigment)
WJ244 or WJ2032 (Cyan dye)
WJ6053 (Magenta dye)
WJ7006 (Yellow dye)

But I'm still stucked on the CISS/Cartridges problem...

CISS seems to have air leaking problem according to Octoink and I don't know if refillable cartridges is the same...

I was interrested by the CISS because I Wouldn't have to refill it several times, but I think I'll buy refillable cartridges if there's no problems with cartridges...

If Martin in ockoinkjet is giving you some sound advice I would heed it.
CISS is not the greatest thing since sliced bread far from it, maybe the refill cartridges are the way to go
till you get used to your new printer.

When using refill cartridges they do hold sufficient ink and wont have to be changed that often,
besides the ink cost is the same as it is in a CISS.

If you purchase compatible cartridges with ink in them, you can either use it up or empty it out
and refill with ink of your choice later.
The ink that octoinkjet sell is also Image Specialists but in the UK. :/

Yeah, I know that OctoInk sells Image Specialists inks. I've ordered last week at octoink.

I've ordered 6X100ml ink for my Epson Stylus Photo PX820FWD. Ink cost for this printer is too expensive and doesn't prevent clogs at all.

That's why I ordered ink quality (Image Speacialist) and use Spongeless cartridges for this printer. If it clogs my printer, I've bought isopropyl alcohol. I think I'll be able to uncloged it...

Buy 4 sets of genuine inks is equivalent of buying a new printer.... That's why I'm switching to inks from Image Specialists.

I still haven't received my orders, so, I can't tell if this ink is great but I've heard lots of good thinks about it, that's why I chose it..

And as I see, I think I'll use refillable cartridges with sponge (because all of refillables cartridges I've found for the HP Officejet 7000 contains a sponge).

It's less convenient than a CISS but if it resolves air leaks, I'm Okay. I wanted a CISS to refill less often the Tank...

Hope this ink will fade less than genuine ink from HP... One month ago, I've printed a Stargate Atlantis picture to put it on my desk, and the black is now milky...

Maybe it's because I used Epson paper and it's not compatible with the HP ink... I Don't know...

It's the first time I see things like that (and I've used lots of printers such as epson, canon, and an old HP Deskjet) and it never happens...

I don't want to refill a cartridges that had already contained ink because I don't want to mix inks...

I've found brand new refillables cartridges in France. I'll buy it and I'll use Image Specialists inks bought at octoink because it's the nearest shops for me...

I live in Reunion Island, so buy in Europe is best for me because I don't pay VAT... I only pay local taxes.

That doesn't make sense. The ink can't be that bad; in fact it should be one of the very best. [sarcasm](You can tell it's good because it's not that much cheaper than gold.)[/sarcasm] And I can't imagine how the paper could affect it that badly. I would consider other causes. For example, maybe the printer thought it was printing on ordinary paper (your mistake, perhaps) and used pigment black, which didn't soak into your glossy paper. Or something like that.


Most people on this forum recommend OEM cartridges over third-party cartridges. However, I expect that the OEM cartridges are probably opaque, and you will not be able to see when they are empty. I don't know that printer, but I expect that is not likely to give you any help with monitoring ink in a refilled cartridge. So maybe transparent cartridges are what you need. Or a CIS. One user reported on a CIS for HP here: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4715 .

Note also that some people recommend draining, refilling and draining the cartridge again when you change brands of ink. And if the cartridge has dried up, there are methods of purging it and rehydrating it. So you can reuse manufacturers' cartridges with third-party ink.

As far as I know, ALL HP cartridges have a sponge. The good ones -- usually labeled "XL" -- also have an open ink chamber adjacent to the chamber with the sponge.

One other thing is that to prevent leaks, the majority on this forum recommend the German, durchstich method. (This doesn't apply to sponge-only cartridges.) Read the forum about this. To keep the cartridge from drying, be sure to cover the fill hole (some people leave it open, but that just has to be misguided). You can also fill an ink chamber from the top of the cartridge, but if you do this, you absolutely MUST seal the fill hole perfectly, with no leaks.

Listen, I have printed the picture with:
- HP OfficeJet 7000 Wide Format
- Genuine full cartridges
- Epson Photo Paper Super A3/Super B (192g/m). This photo paper is made specially for A3 printer such as Epson Styllus Pro 5000 and is not an ordinary paper....

I've selected the right option in the driver of this printer.

It's not my first printer, and it will not be the last (I'm engineer in Information technologies).

I've printed the same image on Fujifilm Photo paper (Fujifilm premium plus photo paper) and the black is not black. It's brown (compared to my print with my Epson) after 1 week...

As I said before, I'm sure that the ink is not compatible with my paper (because of the only pigment black color even if the ink doesn't leaks)...

I don't have problems with the dye inks. The blue and others colors doesn't changed that much. The significant change is about the black color...

The only think that ever happened to me if with my old printer. It couldn't print on Kodak paper. The ink didn't penetrate on the paper...
