As far as a new 3D printer is concerned they’re all using the new direct feed to their hot end and this is a no, no for me, because it makes changing filament colours a lot more difficult.

I prefer to use the Bowden tube which I found much easier to feed new filament in for a quick change around, I even discounted using Capricorn tubes because they are not see through.

I don't follow you here.. Why do you think it's more difficult to feed filament in direct drive extruders ?. Have you tried?. I assure you that, if anything, it's easier because there's no Bowden tube in-between the spool and the filament entry on top of the extruder. I do it all the time with prints that have a color change at different layers. It's a fast and very simple procedure.

Yes and yes and it’s not.. The Bowden tube for me is way superior, tried and tested many a time.. I wouldn’t be saying so if I hadn’t tried both methods..

On another note:- I found a supplier that had CR-10 motherboards and was able to get one, the Feckin thing was almost as dear as a new printer.. €125, Now the question is, will it work when the time comes.. :barnie

Take good care of your printers. In a few years, they will be the last survivors of the Bowden extruder species.
People will pay a lot of money to see such rarities in action.. :hide

P:S: I was missing one of those threads when you and I are in total disagreement. ;)

100% agree! After 3 bowden-based printers, and years of not wanting to go to direct-drive, I finally went direct with my Ender 3 V3 SE and QUICKLY became a convert of how much easier it was to load, manage, and unload. I would never go back to bowden. In fact, seeing a lot of the new printers use bowden to get the filament to the extruder makes me :(

Too bad you don't live closer. I'd give you my whole CR-10!
