Hi All,
At present I am running three printers, one HP colour Laser and two inkjets. I use the inkjets for printing photographs.
The first is a Canon Pro9000 mk2 which I use for colour. I use Image Specialists ink in modified Canon cartridges supplied by OctoInks. At present this printer is being used to support my daughters A level art project but otherwise it does not get used much as I prefer printing mono.
The second inkjet is an Epson 1500W that is fitted with after market refillable cartridges. These are filled with the Eboni ink from MIS in the USA. Eboni is a carbon ink and can only be used on matt papers.
My reason for joining this group is that I have been having problems producing accurate ICC profiles for the canon printer using a datacolor spyderprint. Initially I thought it was me but now I believe that the device is just not up to the task. The profiles it produces often has a yellow to red warm cast and flesh tones look muddy. I get better prints using the canon colour matching option in the driver. I am going to send away for some profiles from the paper supplier FotoSpeed and see how these look. If they are o.k. I see little need to either keep or replace the Spyderprint.
Profiling the Eboni Ink set is simply a case of printing out a step wedge and then scanning the result with a flatbed scanner. The brightness of each patch is measured in photoshop and the values entered into the application QTR-Create-ICC RGB which creates a profile to use.
Both printers need using or they clog. Recently I replaced the head in the canon as it seemed that some nozzles had failed. The Epson is ok but feels built down to a price and if often has paper misfeeds owing to dust on the pickup wheel. The Canon is well built and reliable. My ideal printer would be to run the Eboni inks in the canon but I have read that this is not possible as the Canon is a bubble jet but I may give it a go using the old print head.
