pharmacist, that is not strange. The image specialist ink has yellow channel fade problem as shown in http://www.aardenburg-imaging.com/news.34.html

The other review also confirms inkjetfly has both better gamut and longevity than image specialist ink - http://inkquisitor.wordpress.com/reviews/epson-r1800-ink-jet-fly-inks/

That is why I'd like to stick with inkjetfly ink. Apparently, I don't care about $40 difference as long as they have good ink. But, that is just me, someone might want to save $40.

I don't know if inkjetfly cartridge has filter inside the cartridge or not but OEM cartridge might also get dust on the ink hole before you put it into printer unless we are living in clean room.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. The ink in cartridge cannot be pushed into printer or it will flood the print head then cause short circuit if you are in bad luck. That is what happen in my 1400 printer with refillable cartridge and that is why I'd rather to see same bladder inside the 3800 refillable cartridge. If OEM does it like this way, that means the printer is designed for that way.

May be the best way is to test both. I will try to order a single cart from inkjetfly for $35 for testing. Also I will try to order another single cart from http://www.refill-cc.biz/cartridges.htm

Will report back to everyone.

The second website you are referring to looks a bit propagandistic: it only describes inkjetfly inks..... and it does not compare it to other inks. Something like an infomercial !

Image Specialists inks exists longer than inkjetlfy inks, but what about the longevity of inkjetfly inks according to aardenburg.imaging.com: this is not known to me ?

Maybe IS should improve their yellow ink, because all other colours seem to be very resistant to fading. I cannot find any references about this ? Even Epson own's pigment ink does fade in sun light accordingly to to tests at http://www.druckerchannel.de/artikel.php?ID=1924&seite=17 after 2 months exposure in bright sun light. Just look at the pictures of the Epson DX7000F which uses the Epson Ultrachrome pigment inks. And it seems that even Epson's own pigment yellow ink is quite weak and fades much faster than the other colours.

The Epson Pro 3800 is designed to use a pressurized design (air is blown into cartridges so ink is pushed into the pipelines) to overcome clogging problems, seen with older LF printers. The usage of teflon coating in the print nozzles further diminishes the chances of clogging. You probably already notices the pumping sound when the printer starts up. If the sealing of one or more cartridges breaks down, there will be air leaking from the system and the printer will show an error message that this cartridge is malfunctioning. If it is true the ink is sucked into the printer, then why you need pressure ? It should still work even the pressure inside the cartridge is gone, not ?
In real world it is something else: the pressure is necessary to get the ink entering the pipelines/tubing system of the printer.

pharmacist, thank you. I found the 2nd website from dpreview.com http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1003&message=31004806

The poster adam2 is an 8 years old member in dpreview.com. He also post review for image-specialist(IR) ink (not just inkjetfly ink) at the same website. You can click on review to see it. That is by far most comprehensive review on 3rd party ink I have seen. I suggest you email him if you have any doubt on his research.

As I mentioned earlier, I have decided on inks. Now it is time for me to find a good 3800 cartridges. I appreciate your help.

Klein,

I am happy to help you. I will have a look at the website, because I am still searching for a good refill ink. I am very happy with IS inks, but any other suggestions are welcome.

As pointed out by the Administrator, we need to keep our posts friendly and non-accusatory. Up until this point, the posts were excellent but because they got away from discussing technical issues of refilling inkjet printers, the group of moderators discussed this situation and decided to delete everything from here to the end and lock this thread.
