It had taken a while, but today I received some refillable cartridges with resettable chip for the Epson Pro 3800.
Since the encryption on the original cartridges is very high, you need the original chip of your OEM cartridge to work with.

See here below some pictures:

See the original chip underneath the chip which makes contact with the printer circuit:

Cartridge is completely transparant and easily refilled from the top:

Better than those bulky Inkrepublic system with bulky bottles and messy tubing system:

Have a closer look at this cartridge installed next to original OEM cartridges:

As you can see in the picture below: ink level has been restored to 100 %

There is a resetter available for these cartridges which can reset the bridge chip on the cartridge !

Update:

The printer is still working perfectly. I just tested with one cartridge to see how it works. I printed several pages with light magenta squares to purge the LM line to fill with high quality pigment refill ink from Precisioncolors (thanks to Mikling) and the prints made after the purging process looks as good as the original Epson ink. This refill ink is made by Image Specialists, which is said to have the same archival properties as the original Epson ink.

woah, Ive never seen a a printer with NINE cartridges before. That is both interesting and shocking.

I bet it gives great Black and white photos with the 4 different kinds of blacks?

Brendo,

This printer uses the famous Epsn K3 inkset and you can indeed obtain marvellous quality B/W prints with 4 types of black and grey inks. The driver has the option of "advanced B/W" printing to use the black/grey inks only.

Bit off topic, But does it have good ink mileage? At oem prices and NINE carts, I could only image the cost if the printer was under heavy use

Each cartridge contains about 80 ml of ink, compared to the Epson R2400 with only about 11-12 ml/cartridge. The Epson R2400 uses the same inkset, but this printer can only do A3+ printing. The Epson Pro 3800 can print up to A2, so you can print your own posters. On OEM ink base the printing costs are reduced by half with those larger ink tanks.

If you use original cartridges the replacement of all cartridges at once will cost you about $ 500 retail price !!!
Therefore I was desperately seeking for those cartridges and finally I managed to get these ones and the first LM cartridges seems to work good.

Hi Terroll,

You can contact Robert in the Netherlands, who is importing these cartridges (refillable) and also the appropriate inks and the necessary resetter. Keep in mind NOT to throw away your old cartridges !!! You need to cut out the OEM chip and put it underneath the contact chip. Without the original Epson chips, these cartridges WON'T work.

His address is: info@refill-cc.biz

WTH ?! I discovered a wholesaler at the Alibaba.com site used one of the pictures of these cartridges to advertise for these cartridges. Should he/she not ask for permission before using my OWN picture for commercial purposes ???

bahahahahah that doesn't surprise me at all. You would be surprised how many people simply steal others' work.

But yeah, they should have asked your permission, because you are the owner of the photographs.
