Hey Folks,
Could anyone with an Epson ET8550 tell me the real world time it takes for printing please. Times for a High quality photo on glossy photo paper.

How long for an A4 photo ?
How long for an A3 photo ?

Much Appreciated
Thanks
Si

When I look to various ET-8550 printer tests nobody is really interested in printing speed, it'll most likely vary by paper selection and quality settings.

Thanks for your response.
I have bitten the bullet and have an 8550 in my posession now, and so far the prints are excellent.

So a further question what ink is everyone using for the 8550 ? anyone experience of compatible inks and the quality of them ?

thanks
Si

I advise strongly not to use any compatible/3rd party inks as a substitute for the Epson 114 inks - their fading performance is overall much inferior to the genuine Epson 114 inks, you may alternatively use the 106 inks for the ET7750, the pricing may be somewhat lower depending on your country of residence for the matching colors.

Thank you for your thoughts.
I have used octoinkjet inks before in a ip8750 and they seemed to be pretty good, so i was thinking they may do a set for the 8550. ill see if i can find any info out.
thanks
Si

Yes, you'll find 3rd party inks for the ET-8550 , with a somewhat lower price than the original Epson inks , but all tests in the past have shown that such 3rd party inks deliver a pretty much weaker longevity performance than OEM inks. It's o.k. if you can live with that.

I've only recently acquired my 8550, so hopefully it'll be a long time before I need any refills.

However, for future reference, as the OEM 106 inks are a bit cheaper than OEM 114 inks, are they a direct match (pigment black and grey excepted, of course)? And do the bottle nozzles fit the 8550 tanks correctly?

I didn't see any relevant differences between the 106 and 114 inks, you can screw off (with some force) the tops of the Epson bottles and swap them over and directly fill the 106 inks into the ET8550 - just keep the 114 bottles for the exchange.
