The gray ink can be easily made by mixing 15 parts of PK 106/114 ink with 85 parts of clear ink base. I have a few tests hanging out facing direct towards the sunny side of my window and only the manual writing on the photo paper has faded (felt tip marker).

The matte black ink of the ET-7700 is the 105 ink - complementing the 106 dye inks.

Thank you for your thoughts.
I have used octoinkjet inks before in a ip8750 and they seemed to be pretty good, so i was thinking they may do a set for the 8550. ill see if i can find any info out.
thanks
Si
Much as this might sound a bit counter intuitive there's a reason that we (OctoInkjet) have not pursued compatible inks for the high end ET series like the 8500 and 7700 series of printers. It makes very little sense to have such expensive printers and use inks that only really save you a few quid here or there. The only usage case I can think where it makes sense is when fading is actually preferred (eg: wedding photo samples) or similar.
